Fab Faces – Nicole Richie: Three Times Fashionable!

HOME

Keeping close to our fashion based April theme ‘Around the World in Fashion’ we’ve been thinking about our favorite style muses. Models always have great street style, and international it-girls always look impressive, jetting from the latest show to the next. But open up a weekly mag during your coffee break for fashion inspiration, and well, sometimes the stars just get it so…wrong. Even with all that money and tones of stylists at their fingertips not all celebs are born fashionably equal! But there is one that manages to often look spectacular whilst always sticking to her very own signature style- Miss Nicole Richie!

Nicole has had her fair share of troubled times, but why focus on that when she has come so far as a fashion designer, yummy mummy, actress, and author. We have nothing but props for the starlet who proves that with hard work it is possible to follow multiple passions. Her latest, being a judge on hit US show 'Fashion Star', with Jessica Simpson and John Varvatos, where contestants create designs and vie for them to be sold in massive US retailers- if only it was airing here!

Nicole flexes her own design muscles with her fashion label Winter Kate and jewellery line House of Harlow, both named after her mini-me daughter (who is absolutely adorable by the way!) And now she is going one step further, poised to unleash her own perfume into the world of celebrity fragrances. Yet unlike other celeb fragrance deals, Nicole won’t just be hiding behind a glamourised ad campaign. Instead she is set to jet around the world, including here in Oz, to host talks with beauty eds and journalists about the scent, the inspirations behind it and what it means to her. A brave move considering the scrutiny celebrity fragrances often face, despite the proven popularity of many.

Whilst Nicole loves to be fashion forward she obviously knows a look isn't complete without the right hair and makeup. Rarely seen without her signature black lined eyes, Nicole accentuates their beautiful almond shape and vivid hazel colour with a little help from a great liquid liner and eye pencil. We recommend a one-two punch of liquid liner above the top lashes and a black eye pencil, to line the lower lid's waterline. Eye of Horus offer both of these products in their Liquid Define Eyeliner and their Smokey Eye pencil. Both are very dark and best of all, are kind to eyes (trust me, this is important when drawing liner on the waterline of your eye, as any irritations can cause a sea of tears and ruin the rest of your makeup handiwork in an instant!)

Nicole always sports a healthy glow - which we bet is due in part to chasing her little ones around, on top of everything else! For a luminous touch to your base, try MeMeMe's Poppy Tint cheek and lip tint, for subtle definition. Apply to cheeks and the light will reflect off of the shimmering particles in the formula and make your cheekbones more pronounced. A little on the lips completes the luminous look.

Nicole has always been a bit of a rock chick - her marriage to Joel Madden plus her tough tattoos are proof of that! For your own touch of rocker glam why not try painting your nails a dark hue too? Classic girls, don't fret! It can still look classy- just keep nails short and neat and make sure to remove your polish and re-do once your mani once it starts to chip! Try ozotic's longwearing polish in black #004 for nails Nic would be proud of!

We think Nicole is a great example of a modern fashionable celebrity. She helps to set trends and sticks to her own style rules, coming a long way since her days as a Rachel Zoe-dressed party girl. Tweaking her favoured boho style to develop her very own signature look as well as a plethora of pursuits in the process, we are happy to call Nicole one of our fashion muses.

What do you think of Nicole's signature fashion and beauty style? Have you ever worn or coveted one of her House of Harlow 1960 or Winter Kate pieces? - Lauren
