The weekly wrap up from The Beauty Desk

Landed!

This week has been all about the boys at bellabox as our bellobox is being packed and sent next week, so I have been on a mission to find some great products for our bello blokes!

I met with Anthony, the gorgeous creator of Liquid Skin at the brands HQ in Melbourne and was impressed by the ingredients and their straightforward approach to skincare; a ‘no BS brand’ as Anthony likes to call it. The packaging is simple and stylish and it is an honest brand that delivers the best possible skin care products in a uniquely masculine way.

I love discovering new brands, even men’s brands, and before I farm them out to various male guinea pigs to try, I always have a little try of them myself, so I was excited when Anthony gave me a box of goodies. The products are created without irritants, have a high level of antioxidants, and the packaging is airtight to keep the product in peak condition.  If there are any men in your life looking for a new skin care range, tell them to keep an eye out for Liquid Skin Care... or just subscribe to bellobox!

Smelling

One of the things I do outside of bellabox is create perfumes for brands, so I work with perfumers to create the perfect scent for each project. This week, perfume samples arrived from Grasse in France for a client of mine who asked for a selection of soliflores (single floral note) perfumes. When the arrived I asked the bb girls to have a smell of them and tell me their thoughts. We all agreed that the Violet was divine, the Orange Flower was pretty and the Gardenia was, well, not very Gardenia at all. This is of course led to a discussion about what our perfect perfume would be. Lauren likes hers sweet, Lucy loves Stella and Bridget likes Parisienne. Me, I am a perfume tart, I have over a 100 perfumes to chose from, but my favourite would have to be my fragrance that was created just for me by Lyn Harris. It’s warm and sensual with notes of amber, Turkish rose, tonka bean, and in an interesting twist, Ambrette seed which gives it a salty note. If you could have the perfect scent created just for you, what would it smell like? Post your answer in the comments below and you could win a sample of the three perfumes from Grasse we all tried this week!

And as for last week's winner of the sweet smelling Rose infused gum and lollies from Japan? Congratulations to Katrina McAndrew who would love to smell of bluebells! Lovely! Email us at lauren@bellabox.com.au with your postage details and we will send them off to you asap Katrina! Then you'll have to let us know if you start to smell of Roses!

Talking about

Did you know that biscuits, lollies and chocolates could be good for you? I didn’t! (Well, I do know that a Kit Kat in the afternoon will make me feel human again) but I mean food that not only tastes good but performs a specific function. This week, I came across a product called Boobie Bikkies. Uhuh, you read right. Boobie Bikkies. We all had a little giggle in the office but we were intrigued - What do they do? Do they make them grow bigger? Turns out they help Mothers who are breastfeeding with their energy levels and encourage a healthy milk supply. So if you’re tired and you have a baby to feed, you can eat one of these bikkies, to feel better and your milk will be better for the baby. See, biscuits really are good for you sometimes!

But what about if you’re feeling a cold coming on? You can have some lollies that have honey and olive leaf to boost your immune system. One of our subscribers suggested dropping an Olive Leaf Drop from your June box into a cup of tea for tasty but therapeutic drink. Or if you’re feeling like you need a boost, you can munch on dark chocolate Incaberries - super foods covered in chocolate! So who says biscuits, chocolates and lollies aren’t good for you? All I need now is some cheese that can make my skin look fab and some wine that can improve my liver function and I have all of my fave food groups covered!

So, what foods do you wish were good for you? And don't forget to answer the question: "If you could have the perfect scent created just for you, what would it smell like?" Just post your answer in the comments below for your chance to win a sample of the three perfumes from Grasse!

I wish chocolate was good for you but if i had a scent created just for me it would have to smell like sweet fruit with a twist of citrus!

  • Peta Benyo says:

If I could have the perfect scent it would be a scent that reminded me of an alpine forrest. Fresh notes of floral and a coolness that resembled the fresh growing moss on the rock cliffs and the pine scent of the trees. Warm notes of wood and spice that brought home the smell of the earth and bark and the spice for the animal feel of the perfume!

  • Donna Weston says:

I used to make my own perfumes using essential oils, and try to imitate my favourites but was always disappointed at the result. I remember someone having a "recipe book" of perfumes and I desperately tried to replicate Chanel #5 with no luck of course. I was also so disappointed to see that it was aldehydes that made it special :( But based on that recipe, I know my perfect scent would contain mainly neroli and jasmine, fruity and floral, with a touch of sandalwood to give it depth and an exotic twist.

  • Julie says:

I would have scents of spring - freesias, sweet peas and violets with a hint of lime.
