HOMELanded!
PURE Papaya Ointment with Calendula
Papaya (or paw paw) ointment has long been known as a wonderful all round product, but did you know that some of the ointments on the market contain petrochemicals? There is lots of internet hype about how petrochemicals are deemed as carcinogenic - meaning they can cause cancer. There is also just as many claims that the petroleum jelly used in cosmetics and skin care is not the same as the unrefined petrochemicals with impurities that cause cancer.
There is a lot of conflicting information available about petrochemicals, so it’s good to see some companies have taken note and we now have a choice when it comes to papaya ointments. It’s one of those must have products that can be used for so many things, lip balm, nipple balm, and cuts and bites. When I lived in London it was the only thing that kept my skin moist in the delightfully long and cold winters and my friend swears by it for nappy rash for her little one.
Phytocare have released an ointment that is free from petrochemicals and uses Shea butter and macadamia oil as a base. They kindly sent us some to try this week, it’s a great multipurpose product to have in your bag, and it smells yummy too!
Smelling
Pure Fiji
To say I love Pure Fiji products would be a huge understatement. The scents used in the products are lush and tropical - combined with a hot shower on a cold morning, they are a good motivator to get out of bed. I first discovered their range when picking up a friend from her massage. She smelt amazing, so I immediately booked a massage and came away with a heap of new bathroom candy.
I love most of the scents but my two favourites are Passionflower and Pineapple so I alternate between the two. I start with the shower wash or soap, in summer I use the body scrub, but as soon as the weather starts to cool, I switch to the Sugar Rub. You need to warm the product as it can become quite firm in the winter; I run the tub under hot water or give it a blast with my hairdryer. It smells so gorgeous and stops your skin becoming dry and flaky. I finish of with the light body moisturiser in summer and the body butter in winter, as it is more emollient and keeps the skin moist and gorgeously fragrant.
Talking About
Rose Chewing Gum
As an aromaholic, I love to discover anything new and interesting in the perfume world. When I heard from a colleague about a chewing gum from Japan that makes you smell like rose, I went on a mission to find this little phenomenon...
Late night internet shopping led to a package landing on my desk containing Fuwarinka Rose Scented gum (Said late night shopping also yielded a jacket from Style Stalker and a pair of hot pink high tops from the US! What can I say; wine, a credit card and a laptop are a good combination!) Anyway, Fuwarinka claim their gum and candy make you smell like roses, a rose molecule is emitted from the skin after chewing the gum.
Having recently embarked on a toxic free, low-cal, carb and sugar free diet (don’t even ask!) I couldn’t eat them, only sniff them. So I distributed the gum to my bellabox guinea pigs to try. Although they smell lovely, sadly no one reported a rose scent wafting from their person, though that could be because they didn’t chew on it long enough. As soon as I ditch this diet, I am going to consume all of the lollies and gum in the hopes I will come up smelling of roses!
To win yourself one packet of these lollies and two packs of the gum all you have to do is let us know which flower you'd like to smell of, all without the use of moisturisers or perfume! Comment below with your answer and we will announce the winners during next week's Beauty Desk; tune back here next friday to see if you've won so we can post you some new goodies to taste! - Sam
