July is a super popular time for Australians to head overseas and escape the winter weather. But whether you’re jetting off on a world tour or just spending the night down at the coast we all want to keep our luggage light and our skincare routines simple.
To kick off our Beauty Wanderer theme we’ve gathered up some of our best travel hacks to help you save room in your suitcase and simplify your beauty regimen.
And remember… there’s nothing wrong with picking up a few new beauty products on your travels!
1. Take Your Samples With You
Lighten your load by ditching those big bottles of product. If you’ve been a bellabox member for a while, we have a feeling you’ve got quite a good collection of beauty minis up your sleeve! A little tube of moisturiser, a mini shower gel and a sample size shampoo and conditioner are all you need for a short trip.
2. Decant Your Products Into Smaller Containers
If you haven’t got sample sizes of the products you need then it’s time to get busy and create them yourself. You can purchase empty 100ml cosmetic bottles from the local supermarket or chemist, or if you really want to travel light just put a dollop of each product into empty contact lens cases.
3. Always Have Face Wipes On Hand
Face wipes are a godsend while travelling. Need to remove makeup? Face wipe. Want to clean your hands? Face wipe. On an overnight train with no showers? Face wipe. Feet feeling gross during a multi day hike? Face wipe. Spilled something on your top? Face wipe. Freaked out about the hygiene status of a toilet? Face wipe. Try Milk & Co Scrub and Cleanse Wipes for an extra good cleanse.
4. Choose Versatile Makeup
As beauty addicts, we understand the desire to take your entire makeup kit on holiday. Don’t do it. Take only the basics and look for multiuse products like tints and stains that can be used on different features. For eyes we’re fans of ModelCo Shadow Sticks which travel well, work as both eyeliner and eyeshadow and can be blended with your fingertips.
5. Tape Up Your Bottles
You don’t want a bottle of shampoo to spill open in your bag! Seal the lids of any liquid products with sticky tape to keep them shut while they’re in your luggage. Make sure to take a roll of tape with you so that you can easily reseal them along the way.
6. Protect Your Powders
If powder compacts like bronzers and blushes are amongst your makeup essentials then you want them to arrive safely at your destination. Place a simple cotton pad or some cotton wool inside the compact to cushion the powder and prevent it from breaking up.
7. An All Purpose Cream Could Be All You Need
What magical product can be used to moisturise skin, soothe chapped lips, shave legs, set brows, heal scars, remove makeup, nourish cracked elbows plus makes a great face mask? The always popular Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream. See how many other products you can ditch by just carrying a jar of this cream with you.
8. Dry Shampoo Is Always Welcome
Not only does dry shampoo keep your hair looking fresh on those days when a shower just isn’t possible, it doubles as the best volumiser around for flat and fine hair. If you’re not so keen on packing a spray bottle in your luggage take a travel size bottle of baby powder or talc and just sprinkle it onto your roots as needed.
9. Don’t Dehydrate On Board
Flying can really dry you out – and not just on your face. Your entire body can suffer from dehydration while you’re up in the air. Sip water throughout the flight to keep your hydration levels up, and apply a thick body lotion like Bioderma Atoderm Intensive to restore the skin barrier and soothe the itchiness that comes with dry skin.
10. Keep Your Clothes Fresh With A Bar Of Soap
If you’ve ever travelled for an extended period of time you may have noticed your clothes take on a musty smell in your bag. Keep a nicely scented unused bar of soap nestled amongst your clothes to fight off those suitcase scents!
