There’s no denying it – going back to work after summer holidays sucks. There’s no white-sand beach at a leisurely stroll’s distance, no opportunity for an afternoon nap (unless your workplace is down with that, in which case, where do I send my CV?), no fridge full of watermelon and freezer-load of Frosty Fruits. To help soften the back-to-work blow, here are 10 little tricks to fake your way to an endless summer.
#1 – Keep the good vibes with a new, summery scent
Trick your nostrils into thinking you’re still on holiday, with a fresh, summery, new-season scent. We’re loving The Body Shop’s Italian Summer Fig range. Delish!
#2 – Book a mini break
The best way to get over someone is to, err, you know the saying. It also applies to holidays. The best way to beat the 9-to-5 blues is by booking another holiday to look forward to. At this time of year, your budget’s probably blown, so a mini-break will have to do. I’m thinking Byron for some froyo-fuelled beach time, or Tassie for some culture.
#3 – Splurge on a mani-pedi and choose a bright, summery shade
Treat those claws and paws to some TLC, and a juicy-fresh hue to lift you out of the doldrums. Essie’s new colour collection is just the ticket, full of zingy numbers like Sunday Funday, Cute as a Button and Fiji. Mmm, Fiji.
Look after that new summer glow with an intense dose of hydration. Simuolive’s Olive 100% Natural Skin Care Oil is made from antioxidant-rich NZ olive oil, plus other goodies, and deeply nourishes the skin while helping to reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
#6 – Burn a holiday-scented candle
If you can’t slip away again just yet, bring summer to you with a lush, fragranced candle. I’ll be heading to Cuba with Glasshouse Fragrance’s pineapple, tangerine and cherry scent.
#7 – Make a summer playlist
Create a Spotify playlist of all your favourite, upbeat summer tracks to put a smile on your dial, even as you plug away at your spreadsheets. Thrash it until you are so sick to death of summer you’re craving the return of winter.
#8 – Change your screen saver to a glamorous destination, like Tahiti
This is either going to help, or totally bum you out. I hope it’s the first option.
Ever wanted to get your downward dog on to Biggie, or make like Queen B? A new dance or fitness class – like Hoop Dance, Bey Dance or Hip Hop Yoga – will lift your spirits AND help move the festive five (kgs).
