If you rung in 2019 with your physical and mental wellbeing at the top of your goals list, you’re already in the right place. If life caught up and led some things to fall through, you’re not alone either. Writing down your vision is the easy part; following through can feel comparable to conquering the depths of Mordor.
Anything is possible with a nudge in the right direction, and we’re here to do just that.
We’ve collated a number of ways to kickstart your new journey, because nothing screams ‘queen getting her life together’ more than a thriving to-do list.
1. Write it all down
Writing your goals is half the fun. Good habits and grateful thoughts especially deserve to be written down. Whether it’s a personal diary, or a gratitude journal, a meal planner or a checklist, sit down once a day and spill your musings onto paper. You might find it’s cathartic even for a few minutes, and it serves as a sweet time capsule to reflect back on weeks/months/years from now.
2. Keep your mental health in check
The state of your mental health is paramount to your overall wellbeing and should require just as much attention as your physical health. Be conscious of your headspace by finding some quiet ‘you’ time regularly. Apps likeHeadspace and Buddhify are great for meditation and keeping calm. If you’re up for an adventure, go for a drive and read, write, or do some yoga by the water.
3. Join a local club
Cue the sound of introverts running away. Whether it’s your local gym, a book club, a cycling group – getting yourself out there is a great way to kick off your wellness journey. Plus, having a buddy means you’ll always have someone to push your motivation. Aren’t free trials are mere introductions to new friends?
4. Join an online community
Much like joining a class, finding inspiration online can change your mindset for tackling the day. Find content from empowering women, like-minded creatives, inspiring athletes, motivational speakers.
Just for you: We’ve created a Welcome To Wellness group, through which we hope to inspire those who share our love for a mindful lifestyle.
5. Spend time with loved ones
Sometimes seeing an old friend is all you need to restart the fuel once it’s run low. Set aside time to see your family, friends and whoever may be a positive influence on your life. It’s no secret that having a strong network of support alongside you directly correlates to your mood and wellbeing. Go on, call them up.
6. Master the art of meal prepping
Maybe you’ve got the gym routine down pat. Though, like most others, the hardest part is sticking to a healthy diet. Come day three, it proves difficult finding joy in the broccoli-kale concoction once again.
Recipe books are great solutions for creating a party on your plate. And you’ll find that a medley of greens can be exciting when paired with the right things.
Whip your cooking skills into shape; grab a recipe book, download a cooking app. You’ll find that by enjoying the cooking process, and enjoying the treats you’re making, you’ll never have the urge to eat anything else.
Like junk food, filtered lives and perfectly curated content will have negative effects on your health if consumed excessively. Place no value in numbers and flashy aesthetics; log out every once in a while.
8. Read more books
We’re all Netflix worshippers here, but there’s something elating about ditching an episode for a few hours of reading. There’s infinite magic tucked in pages and stories, not to mention they’re amazing sources for much-needed inspiration.
Take a book with you everywhere; while on holiday, on your morning commute, to breakfast (or maybe it’s just my friends that are always late) Plus, they never run out of battery. Hello, endless entertainment.
9. Be inspired by other people’s stories
Ever heard a story that resonated so well it changed your outlook forever? If you haven’t, here’s your push to search for one. Listen to podcasts, interviews, read your favourite blog, attend panels, find like-minded people and do it together.
10. Learn something new
Knowledge is power, and there’s never been a better time to load up, what with the infinite resources we have on hand. Think of a topic that you’ve always wanted to know about and read an educational piece on it; hit up YouTube and follow that makeup tutorial you’ve always loved; enrol into a language class and brush up on your Spanish.
11. Set goals and celebrate every win
Everything from getting out of bed, to tackling a task that you’ve pushed aside for a while, to hitting your water intake for the day. It’s the little things.
