We’re a pretty appy bunch here at bellabox (sorry). Anything that makes life easier is a winner in our books and, since we’re clutching our smartphones pretty much 24-7, apps are often our go-to when we want info, inspo, or just a little light entertainment. From helping you plan your next hair colour to decoding those epic lists of skincare ingredients, it’s time to get app-dicted to six of our favourite techy beauty finds.
If you’re one of the many many people trying to clean up your life, it’s time to start thinking dirty. With over 305, 000 cosmetics and beauty products in its database, this nifty little app can identify just how toxic your products are. Simply scan the barcode of your product and you’ll receive a host of info, including the overall toxicity of the product, on a scale from one to ten (with ten being the worst), as well as a full ingredient breakdown. You can also rate your current bathroom haul, and track your progress on cleaning it up. You can also create shopping lists, or purchase the products direct from Amazon.com.
I bet you can already guess what this one’s all about. Basically, you upload a photo or take a new snap of your lovely mug, then get to play around with different hair colours to see what you’d look like with say Emma Stone red or Angelina dark brown. It’s super fun and easy to use and you can keep the snaps for a reference for your next colourist appointment. Unfortunately, I can now categorically say I only look halfway decent as a blonde.
So. Much. Fun. Try on every makeup look under the sun in real time. As in you can actually move and you’ll still be wearing your virtual makeup. Amazing stuff. You can play around with looks like ‘Day Time Glam’, adjust any of the products if they’re not quite right, and also get easy to access product info so you find out the exact shade of lippie you NEED to buy. Now if only I could do a winged eyeliner like that in real life.
OK, so this one is definitely cheating, but it’s fun to play around with. Beloved by selfie queen Kim Kardashian, you can whiten teeth, zap zits away and perform all manner of sneaky makeover wizardry, ready for your flawless close-up on Insta. Just don’t get addicted!
Very popular overseas, this new-to-Australia app lets you quickly and easily search for and book beauty treatments in your city (currently only Sydney and Melbourne). You can filter by price, service, location etc, then book your haircut/massage/wax directly through the app. Because picking up the phone is so 2014.
IMHO, this clever app should be essential for every man and woman in Australia. An initiative of SunSmart Victoria, it lets you know current UV levels and when you need to up the sun protection, as well as when you’re safe to get some sun to help your vitamin D levels. With sun protection times released by the Bureau of Meteorology, you can also check seven-day weather forecasts and receive alerts to remind you to slip, slop, slap and stay out of the sun during high-UV periods. Genius.
