We all know that drinking bucketloads of water is essential for clear, healthy-looking skin. But, let’s face it, it can be pretty bland. And teeth-tinglingly cold now the weather’s turned icy. A cup of tea, on the other hand, is one of life’s greatest pleasures, and a delicious way to stay cosy during winter. So imagine our joy when we heard about a tasty tea that is not only soothing, but also promises to detox our bods AND help clear our skin. Let’s just say the bellabox HQ kettle has been in high demand this week…
You would have noticed a bunch of cute, powder blue tea sachets in your June bellabox? This equates to around a five-day supply of Your Tea Skin Magic Tea – a health and beauty tonic with a bunch of benefits, assisting with acne, cystic pimples, eczema, hormonal skin, uneven skintone, and digestion.
In case you’re worried it’s a gimmick, it’s not. Unlike some of the dodgy weightloss teas out there, the Your Tea team have been expertly crafting unique tea blends with health benefits for years, based around the principles of Chinese Medicine. Perhaps you want to feel happier, sleep better, or have a better sex life? There’s a Your Tea tea for that. But we’re in the business of beauty, so it’s their Skin Magic Tea we’re sipping obsessively to get our blemish-free glow on!
Your Tea ambassador and Doctor of Chinese Medicine, Natalie Kringoudis explains how it works:
The prime ingredient in Skin Magic Tea is Aloe Vera. Aloe helps to nourish and rejuvenate the skin, meaning not only does it go to work on feeding your skin but equally to hydrate, clear heat (think cystic, sore pimples) and drain away any inflammation.
Liquorice root is known to be harmonising and nourishing. Because it is sweet in flavour, it works on digestion (and that’s where it all begins). Sometimes when our gut health is compromised we can’t adequately utilise the nutrients we consume, because our bodies can’t easily digest it. If we can’t use the fuel from food, then our bodies miss out on important nutrients, which means that we may experience more acne flare ups simply because the body is missing elements that are vital to nourish skin. This is equally important for creating good hormonal balance. Hormones can be a contributing factor to poor skin, especially for those who find themselves breaking out around the time of menstruation. Lotus seed is equally important in aiding digestion and ironing out the creases seen in hormone imbalance.
Jasmine is particularly cooling and calming. Alongside Bai Xian Pi, it can drain and dry out pus accumulations and help to generate new skin – this assists in treating and preventing scarring.
We’ve just started trialing it, so can’t report back on our results just yet, but we can tell you it’s easy to make, and tastes lightly sweet, floral and refreshing. Two cups a day (you can even reuse your teabag) are recommended to promote clear skin, sipped half an hour before or after meals.
