A weekend break, while a nice idea, can seem overwhelming if you’re travelling with a baby or toddler. In order to help you make the most of your escape, without packing the entire house, we chatted with Tahlia Mandle of The Parenting Files blog and founder of Kakadu Plum Co for her getaway do’s and don’ts.
Do be prepared
“Prepare outfits for each day, plus an extra or two for accidents or mess that may happen, which more often than not, will happen.”
Don’t forget a jumper
“Pack something warm for the little ones to put on in case it gets cold.”
Do go with the flow
“Expect the best and the worst. Expect baby to not sleep as well and things will be out of routine.”
Don’t expect too much
“I remember that first ‘holiday’ of mine with children where I was left feeling let down and underwhelmed as I was expecting a ‘holiday’. It wasn’t. It was more like a change-of-scenery.”
Don’t forget to pack…
“I always pack a bottle of Nurofen for my kids. There is nothing worse than having to run around and find a pharmacy for an unexpected temperature or injury. A couple of band-aids don’t go astray too. If your kids are used to a nightlight, don’t forget to pack that too. A few little comfort factors make the weekend that little bit more enjoyable, especially your child’s favourite stuffed toy.”
bellababy weekend away essentials
Lark Rabbit Night Light
Surround your little one with familiar things, like his favourite bunny night light.
Nurofen for Children 3+ Months
Sugar-free and strawberry flavoured for fussy mouths, this formula offers reliable relief from any pains or temperature.
Little Munchkin’s Night Time
Naturally flavoured with yummy vanilla and packed with pea protein, sprouted brown rice and coconut juice water, this formula is specially designed to help toddlers drift off to the land of nod.
La Clinica Organic For Baby Calming Massage Oil
The change in routine and scenery might disturb baby’s sleep patterns, so spending some quality mum and bub massage time before bed might help. La Clinica’s natural massage oil contains organic Jojoba Oil and organic botanical extracts of Chamomile, Calendula and Frankincense to soothe, soften and calm.
Band-Aids
Make sure you pack a couple of band-aids for any itty bitty accidents. Some Dora themed plasters will provide a fun distraction.
Sophie the Giraffe
You don’t want to pack the whole toy bin, but Sophie is small and mobile, providing entertainment and helping to soothe teething pains.
Angelcare Audio Monitor
Since baby’s room might be a little further away than at home, a baby monitor is a smart thing to pack. This model also includes a soothing nightlight for the nursery.
Slip Silk Sleep Mask
You might be catching zs at random times, and you don’t want to be caught out by an overly bright bedroom. Make sleep time a little more luxurious with a silk eye mask.
Clarins BB Cream
You’ll be carting around a hundred-and-one things for the littlies, so keep your own load light by choosing multi-tasking beauty products. Over than mascara and lip balm, all you really need for day is a great BB cream that acts as a moisturiser, sunscreen and foundation in one.
