Summer’s great, but it can play havoc with your hair. Excess sweat and humidity often equals greasy, limp or frizzy locks, while time spent at the beach and the pool can leave your tresses rather stressed. I caught up with Sofia Basile, owner of UNICO Hair in Melbourne, and creator of the all-natural UNICO Formulations products to talk warm weather hair tactics.
How can you fight humidity, and the dreaded frizz?
“Making sure your hair is well hydrated is key. Add a hydrating product to the mix, like a nourishing leave-in conditioner spray.”
How can blondes stay healthy, and avoid a green tinge from chlorine?
“Always use a hair mask and keep up those regular cuts – this is particularly important as hair grows faster during summer. Always use a swimming cap in the pool, and pop on a barrier cream of conditioner before swimming. Also use a clarifying shampoo regularly throughout summer.”
What’s the best way to prevent colour fade from sun, surf and chlorine?
“Always try to use a UV filter leave-in spray before heading to the beach or pool.”
Should you have more regular trims since hair grows quicker?
“Yes, it’s just like grass. More regular trims are a must – every four to six weeks is ideal.”
