Look around you and it’s clear to see the whole word has gone cray cray for Korean beauty. Here at bellabox, we’re no different, and we’re lucky enough to get a chance to try some of the latest and greatest prods hitting our shores. From serious skin technology to cute and quirky cosmetics, we’re having a serious krush. Here are of our top K-beauty essentials.
Serum-soaked sheet masks are one of our favourite weekly indulgences. (We sometimes use them twice weekly, but who’s counting). They’re so easy – just apply, lie back for 15-20 mins, and nap/ scroll / read as all the goodness soaks into the skin. The physical mask provides a barrier, so the ingredients soak deeper into the skin for enhanced results – from intense hydration to pore tightening, skin brightening and more. And you don’t even have to rinse your face afterwards. Yass.
bb pick: innisfree Moisturising Second Skin Sheet Mask is a heavenly hydrating mask enriched with beautiful plant-based ingredients from the pristine island of Jeju. The fermented soybean sheet mask fits like a ‘second skin’ and is ultra-soothing and refreshingly cool on the skin. Delivering long-lasting moisture, it’s also free from 19 nasty preservatives including parabens.
If you like your foundation easy and breezy, and never caked on, a cushion compact is your new BFF. With feather-light formulations, skin perfecting benefits and usually a high SPF, cushion compacts are portable and spill-proof. The liquid is distributed through a sponge (cushion) and only a little product is needed. The coverage is lighter than an odd-school foundation compact – perfect for the ‘no-makeup’ makeup fans.
bb pick: IT Cosmetics CC+ Veil Beauty Fluid Foundation SPF 50. Granted, it’s not a Korean brand, but this killer compact utilises cushion technology so we’re sneaking in our fave skin perfector. Developed by a former news anchor, IT Cosmetics was developed in collab with plastic surgeons and dermatologists in the US. This light and silky beauty fluid does it all – dialling down redness, minimising pores and fine lines, treating the skin with peptides, vitamins and collagen, preventing sun damage, and imparting a gorgeous glow. Sheer and easy to blend, you can build your ideal level of coverage. IT’s true love.
Korean beauties love natural products and it’s a trend we’re only too happy to embrace. Launched in 2000, innisfree is Korea’s first natural skincare and cosmetics brand. With a solid environmental record, innisfree runs a bottle recycling program and is passionate about reducing carbon emissions. The range uses 70% natural ingredients, with many – such as green tea seed, volcanic clay and precious orchid elixir – sourced from the stunning South Korean island of Jeju.
bb loves: innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask. While we’re besotted with the green tea serums, lotions, creams and toners (the Green Tea Balancing Skin – a toner for combination skin – smells good enough to drink), we chose this clay mask for its intense pore-detoxifying powers. Hey, it’s won 22 global beauty gongs so we can’t be wrong! Particularly good for oiler and combo skin types, volcanic ash draws out impurities for healthy, glowing skin. Skin is exfoliated, hydrated and visibly brighter, while pores appear smaller.
Peel-Off Lip Tint
From the Land of the Morning Calm comes one of our favourite time-saving makeup inventions – the peel-off lip tint. With a fun novelty factor, these clever prods create a super long lasting stain on the lip that won’t budge, no matter what you eat and drink or who you smooch. You can wave goodbye to a bag full of lippies for constant touch ups throughout the day.
bb loves: Monomola Peel-Off Lip Tint for its cool, pop-art packaging and popsicle hues. Apply in a thick, even layer, keep lips still and allow to dry for 8 minutes. Peel off from the corners and remove any excess. Your lips will now have a gorgeous tint that will last up to 24 hours! Pop some gloss or balm on top if you want a juicier finish. Mwah!
