Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has been in full swing this week in New York, and here in the bellabox office we’ve been keeping a close eye on the hair and makeup trends that the models have been sporting! We are so inspired.
The most noticeable trend has been natural, simple, carefree makeup. Skin has been dewy and fresh. While of course there were many variations within this theme, there were a huge number of “no makeup” looks hitting the catwalk this year. At the other end of the scale, there were plenty of red lips and dark eyes popping up all over the place.
This month we’re working with GRITTYpretty blogger Eleanor Pendleton for our September Beauty Wardrobe bellabox, and Eleanor is currently at Fashion Week checking out all the fashion and style. We cannot wait to hear about all her adventures!
Here are our favourite hair and makeup looks so far. Thanks to Instagram we have more information than ever about the products used.
At Collina Strada makeup artist James Vincent created a “nomadic natural look” with a strip of metallic gold down the centre of the models’ foreheads. The products used were from Ardency Inn, a super cool brand from New York that is influenced by the downtown music scene. Hair was left loose, natural and carefree.

At Jason Wu the look was all about a subtle smoky eye and dewy skin. Makeup was by Lancome. Hair was by Odile Gilbert for Kerastase. Hair was pulled back into a low ponytail, with curls added to the lengths of the models hair.

Models at SUNO sported impressive fishtail braids, created by Odile Gilbert for Kerastase. Makeup was by Maybelline, and faces were fresh and dewy with a light rosy glow.

Red lips certainly created an impression at Zac Posen’s show! Skin was dewy and fresh, while eyes were highlighted with gold shimmer. Red nails completed the look. Makeup was by MAC. Hair was slicked back into a “wet” look by Kerstase’s Odile Gilbert (she’s everywhere!)

Makeup at Maison Margiela followed a futuristic theme. MAC products were used to give models a simple, serene shimmer. Specifically, MAC Pro Eye Gloss in Pearl Varnish on eyes and MAC Pro Clear Gloss on cheekbones.
At DKNY, Eugene Souleiman used Wella products to create a ‘hot in the city’ look inspired by 80s and 90s New York. The style incorporated a gelled wave, zig zag parting, braids and pony tails. Check out those gelled baby hairs! Makeup was by Maybelline.
