Makeup shaming is not something we go in for at bellabox. There are no rights or wrongs when it comes to the amount of makeup that you wear. There should be no guilt or shame involved in using makeup. Contouring, winged eyeliner, false lashes, bright lipstick – these are all transformative elements of makeup that we love!
YouTuber Nikkie Tutorials kicked off this discussion recently when she made a video speaking out against the trend of makeup shaming. She wanted to demonstrate how powerful makeup can be, and encourage women to enjoy wearing it. You shouldn’t have to hide it, or make others feel uncomfortable for their makeup choices.
In the past week we’ve seen this movement go viral. Women have been posting the most incredible selfies on Instagram using the hashtag #ThePowerOfMakeup. Each image shows them with half their face made up, and half their face bare. What’s evident is how beautiful they all are with and without makeup, but that they really do enjoy the process of applying makeup.
These are some of our favourite images and videos that show off #ThePowerOfMakeup
"A lot of people believe that if you say you like makeup you wear it for men or you're insecure and don't love yourself. Well that's not the case. I like my face and will go out any day of the week without my makeup on and my hair up in a bun and be just as confident than if I was wearing a full face of makeup and my head full of extensions. I believe that every girl should have the courage to stand up for herself and think she is pretty without and with makeup on. #halfmakeup #halfmakeupchallenge #thepowerofmakeup" -@cate_werynski
"This is the power of makeup Basically just do half your face with makeup and see the difference #thepowerofmakeup #beauty #makeup#everyoneisbeautiful"

"I don't wear makeup because I lack confidence .. I love makeup because it's art . Being able to change my appearance because I feel like it & because I can , is an art . Brushes , color , creativity , expression , no limits , I create what I feel when I want , how I want . I love not wearing makeup the same way I love wearing makeup… #ThePowerOfMakeup"
