The biggest beauty trend of the past year? No it’s not thick eyebrows or dark lips – it’s no-makeup makeup. While that might sound crazy, it’s actually very simple. The idea is to capture the glow of an off-duty model who really doesn’t wear any makeup with the help of a few undercover products that will enhance your natural beauty.
There are some situations where a full face of makeup just isn’t appropriate. The gym, the beach, or even an early morning where you’re running behind schedule. Maybe you work in an office where no one wears makeup, perhaps you’re too busy chasing your kids around to find the time to focus on foundation and eyeliner or it could be that you’re at school where makeup is a definite no-no.
If the idea of leaving the house totally bare faced leaves you curled up in the fetal position then you are amongst friends. I will confess that when I tell people I’m wearing “no-makeup” what I actually mean is I’ve probably got at least a touch of concealer and mascara on.
These are our tips and tricks for nailing a no-makeup makeup look every time.
Great skin means less makeup is necessary. A clean and glowing complexion means you can kick that foundation habit to the curb. If you are time poor in the mornings then our tips for speeding up your routine will come in handy.
A hardworking cleanser like Enbacci Vitis Vinifera Gel Cleanser will freshen up your face and keep breakouts at bay. Follow this with an antioxidant rich moisturiser like John Plunkett Multi Vitamin Moisturiser which is packed full of Vitamins A, B3, B5, C and E to decrease fine lines and reduce the appearance of brown marks and redness.
We’ll be skipping lip colour. All you’ll need is a high quality lip balm like Burt’s Bees Lip Balm Tube which contains nourishing ingredients such as coconut and sunflower oils, Vitamin E and peppermint.
Foundations and powders are the enemy of the no-makeup makeup look. However if you don’t have naturally airbrushed skin (and who does!?) then a little help is definitely necessary.
BB Cream will even out your skin tone, cover minor imperfections and help to protect and improve the quality of your skin. We like La Mav Organic BB Creme. Concealer can be used to cover any spots or imperfections and can be blended into your skin with the help of a small brush. Try theBalm Time Balm Concealer.
You can either combine BB Cream and concealer or just wear one – it’s totally up to you. Neither will be detectable to the naked eye.
The Brightening Effect
A bright and glowing skin tone will help you to look fresh as a daisy. You definitely want to avoid using any products with shimmer in them, as this will be a telltale sign that you are wearing makeup.
Add a little glow and lightness to your skin with the Chella Highlighter Pencil in Ivory Lace. Just draw onto your skin in the areas you want to highlight such as cheekbones and brow bones and blend with a sponge or your finger. Everyone will just think it’s your natural radiance shining through!
To brighten the eye region and cover dark circles we are obsessed with Indio Eye Rise. This lightly tinted eye cream plumps the skin and is lightly tinted for the perfect amount of natural coverage every time.
Your eyes are the window to your soul, and they shouldn’t be left untouched! While we’re not going to be sticking on fake lashes or brushing black eyeshadow across our lids there are a few little tricks that will help to enhance your eyes in a natural way.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Genius is a waterproof clear mascara that separates and lengthens your lashes. It’s great on it’s own for a very subtle lift, but where it really shines is when you apply it on top of your existing mascara to instantly make it waterproof. This is perfect for beach days or heavy workouts when you know you’ll be sweating up a storm.
If you can’t live without liner try some subtle tightlining in your upper lashline. It will be nearly unnoticeable as makeup but will help make your lashes look thicker and your eyes more defined. We love Eye Of Horus Charcoal Obsidian Goddess Pencil because it’s waterproof and smudge-proof.
Finally, define your eyebrows without overdoing it with Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel. This mascara style wand can be used to comb and set your brows in place as well as providing enough colour to help them look their best.
