Because we love tipping you on upcoming trends, trust us when we say – androgynous scent will be one of THE biggest fragrance trends this year. While the unisex thing isn’t entirely new (hello, CK One), leading international fragrance houses are increasingly broadening their customers’ olfactory horizons with a fresh crop of genderless scents. And we’re totally on board!
Not convinced fragrance fluidity is for you? Read on to discover why the bb team’s 100% here for unisex scents – and why, once you’ve sniffed a few, we think you will be, too.
We’re not buying into gender stereotypes
It’s 2019, people! Which means us girls no longer have to stick to sugar and spice and all things nice while the boys are lumped with ‘manly’ notes of leather and tobacco. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that, if that’s your fragrance jam.) The point is, the time is ripe for expressing your personality, and scent is one of the easiest – and most fun – ways to do it.
Gemma Arterton prefers sporting a men’s fragrance, while trend-setter Ashley Olsen was reported way back in 2014 to favour unisex scent Dior Bois D’Agent. But it’s when the likes of Kimmy K get on board that you know a trend really has legs. The super savvy businesswoman recently launched KKW Body III – a modern, woody floral marketed as “borrowed from bae, but better on her”.
They just smell darn good!
Conforming may be boring, but there’s no point making a point if you don’t like how you smell. Thankfully, today’s androgynous fragrances smell AHmazing! And going genderless with scent doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be limited in your choices, either.
The offering from Italian fragrance house Acqua Di Parma is one of the best, with several scents designed to be worn by both sexes. Signature scent, Colonia, first launched in 1916 and it’s a sophisticated mix of Sicilian citrus, crisp lavender, exotic vetiver and sandalwood that’ll make you swoon.
But our fave right now is Chinotto Di Liguria, from the Blu Mediterranean line. Light, refreshing and vibrant, it’s the perfect summer EDT – with top notes of zesty chinotto and mandarin, an aromatic heart of rosemary, geranium and cardamom, and musk and patchouli lingering at its base.
