Love the drama of false lashes but scared of having your stick-ons migrate to your cheek during dinner? Don’t be! All you need is the RIGHT set of lashes, and a little know how. Read on for our essential guide to applying false lashes like a pro.
Step 1 – Use a trusted brand
It pays to always go for quality when it comes to faux lashes. Our go to? MODELROCK – Australia’s leading false lash brand, loved by makeup artists and lash addicts across the globe. The quality is top notch, they’re 100% cruelty-free, and the selection is EPIC. (Psst! ICYMI, you’re getting a set of lashes from their Signature range in your October bellaboxes!)
Step 2 - Consider your eye shape
When choosing faux lashes, it’s important to not only take into account the occasion (maybe keep the extra-long, double-layered styles for date night rather than a job interview), but also your own gorgeous eye shape.
This guide we prepared earlier will help you find your perfect lash match.
Step 3 – Easy does it
To remove your lashes from their packaging without damaging them, peel inwards from the outer edge. The reason? It’s much less of a pain if you break or damage the outer corners, as you’ll often need to trim them anyway to achieve your perfect length. Heavy handed? Use tweezers instead of your fingers.
Step 4 – Cut to size
Using your tweezers, align and measure your lashes along your natural lash line. The faux lash should start where your own natural lashes begin in the inner corner of your eye. You want them to finish a little inside of your outer lashes – anything too wide and you will create a drooping effect. Using sharp scissors, trim the outer lashes ONLY.
Step 5 – Prep your (real) lashes
Apply your shadow, eyeliner etc, then curl your natural lashes. Apply your mascara now, as it will give you some extra traction and make it easier for you to blend your natural and false lashes in the next step.
Step 6 – Glue each (faux) lash strip
Holding your faux lashes with your tweezer, dot lash glue along the base of the lash strip and create a thin line of glue. Wait for 10 seconds or so for the glue to become tacky. This will ensure your lashes won’t slide all over the shop when you try to attach them.
Step 7 – Apply your lashes
Using your fingers or tweezers, place the lashes along your lash line, not too close to the inner corner of the eye to avoid irritation. Let your natural lash line guide you, or, if you’re wearing eyeliner, match up with that. Push the lashes down so there’s no telltale skin showing between your natural and false lashes. Teeny tiny gaps? Use more eyeliner and an extra coat of mascara to perfect your lush-lashed look.
