"Although technically still Day 1 - as we haven’t been to bed yet! - we have landed and ready to get our first real day of culture on. After a brief layover in Tokyo, we are back on the plane heading straight for Matsuyama where we are greeted with a 5m long welcome banner. Seriously! Way to make a girl feel like a celeb.
We set up camp in Dogo Onsen, renowned for cleansing both body and soul.
First stop, The Shikoku Pilgrimage of the 88 Temples. This has to be one of the most inspiring places that I have been to be in a while. There is so much respect, honour and integrity that you truly feel blessed to be within the peaceful space. My inner yogi wanted to break out an Hommmm.
We went into the temple feeling a little weary from our travels, and came out feeling cleansed and enlightened after partaking in traditional prayer and sending wishes off for both ourselves and for ones we love. The perfect way to kick off this trip and purify our soul, which of course will only enhance our inner beauty ;)
After the mind comes the body, and next up is the Dogo Hot Springs. The oldest in Japan at a whopping 3,000 years old - where it is said the Gods discovered healing powers in soaking in the hot springs. A few centuries later and people are flocking in to sooth and cleanse their bodies in these incredible hot baths. Was only a matter of minutes before we were knocking on the ticket window. Get me cleansed, stat! And did I mention they serve refreshments while bathing?
But of course, in this bathhouse, it is regulation to go commando. Eeek! But, in dire need of a relaxing soak, and bit of a when in Rome moment, and a ‘surely this can’t be a terrifying as the Turkish baths’ conversation, we stripped off to cleanse our bodies the Japanese way (trying to avoid too much eye contact.) We joined some other ladies in the ‘Water of the Spirits’ bath and to be honest, it was actually quite freeing!

Now, we all know you can’t be with us in Japan right now, so we wanted to give you our tip for a mind and body cleanse on the go. Simple, you only need one product. Get your hands on the APPELLES Rosemary Body Bar. This is the holy grail of soaps – keeping your skin soft and hydrated.
If you’re like us and don’t trust a hotel soap, pack this beauty in your bag. We brought a few, and are now left empty handed after the other girls on the tour raided us. They haven’t stopped raving and we know why!
It’s cleanses, soothes and moisturises. The next best thing to a naked bath in Japan ;)
On that note, we are off to our Japanese style beds on the bamboo floor. See you in Tokyo! - Emily
