If you are yet to introduce one of these wonder water prods into your beauty routine, now is the time!
What are they? These beauty waters are more than just your regular H2O. They can be used in place of a cleanser, makeup remover (or makeup wipes) and even a toner. They are designed to be totally refreshing and never oily, unlike other makeup removing products. They've been bing in Europe for years, but have only hit the AU market in the past few - if you haven't yet, it's time to accquaint yourself.
What do they do? These waters take their name 'micellar' from the term 'micelle' which is a mollecule dispersed in a liquid. The mollecules in a cleansing water are actually oil mollecules, which is surprising to many as these waters are designed to be refreshing and never oily. But it's these mollecules that cling to the dirt/makeup/oil on your face and dissolves them, leaving skin clear and fresh. They have been designed not to strip the skin (unlike some foaming cleansers, for instance) and best of all, don't even need to be rinsed! In fact, makeup artists the world over have these cleansing waters in their kits for that very reason - they remove everything fast, and don't irritate the skin. Instead, expect a soft, hydrated and clear complexion without any hint of redness left behind.
You can't go past the classic French cleansing water that removes every trace of makeup (even waterproof mascara) as well as the impurities on your skin. No wonder it was smuggled over European boarders before finally becomming available outside France recently! Just soak a cotton pad and give your face a quick swipe over, and you're done. It's ultra-gentle too, making it ideal to remove heavy eye makeup. I love that it doesn't leave behind the sluggish, oily feeling of your regular makeup remover, so it doesn't need to be rinsed off afterwards.
Much like its pink capped sister, the Bioderma Sebium H2O removes all traces of makeup and grime from your skin. However, this version is best for oily skinned lasses, as it goes that one step further to help remove excess sebum too. Ideal after a long day in the elements that leaves your skin feeling oilier than ever. Best to avoid the eyes with this one though.
This three-in-one lotion is the best choice for soothing easily-irritated skin. It does the regular jobs of a good cleasing water (removing every trace of makeup, and lightly cleansing) too. But if your skin is prone to redness or any kind of sensitivity, this cleansing water will be your new best friend. Particularly good if you need to remove all your old makeup (let's say, after a day at work) before quickly reapplying for a night out (hot date perhaps?) as you'll get that clean and clear base, sans shower, and sans redness. Win!
