Travelling can be exhausting. Whether you’re exploring museums in Europe, lying on a beach in Bali or going on a road trip around Australia, you’ll have at least one day where you’re just too tired to think about your skincare routine.
So what essentials do I always take with me when I’m travelling? What are the little things you might forget to pack that will make your trip just a bit more comfortable? It doesn't matter if I’m backpacking or glamming it up in a 5 star hotel, this is what you’ll find in my suitcase.
Sometimes it’s just too hard to cleanse, tone and moisturise when you’ve had a busy day. That’s where face wipes come in. They’ll have you feeling fresh and clean in seconds. I love Swisspers Original Facial Cleansing Wipes. They contain active moisturising ingredients, and are pH balanced and alcohol free. I always keep a small pack in my handbag, especially if I’m travelling to a hot location. Wiping my face down after a hot and sweaty afternoon is almost as refreshing as a cool shower!
Chapped lips and travel go hand in hand. I’m constantly covering my lips in Phytocare Papaya Ointment both on the plane and while sightseeing to keep them moisturised. This stuff is actually really versatile, so if you’re travelling with a baby you should know it’s actually gentle enough to use as a nappy cream! And if you're in a cold location and end up with dry and cracked hands, this will help to restore moisture.
Travel Skin & Space Mist
All this moving around is going to have you a bit off balance. I’ve become obsessed with Australian Bush Flower Essences Travel Skin & Space Mist. It’s a moisture-rich mist packed full of botanical butters, exquisite oils, herbal extracts and skin balancing Australian bush flower essences. It helps you feel refreshed when you’re in an unfamiliar place, and if you’re overseas the scent will remind you of home.
For a quick fix the shampoo your hotel provides might do the job, but it seems half the time there is no conditioner – and I can’t go without it! To keep things simple, try a product that does both. Wen by Chaz Dean Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditionersmells amazing, and it won’t strip your hair of all its natural oils. You apply the Cleansing Conditioner from the roots to the ends, gently massaging it into your scalp and hair. Then leave it on for up to 5 minutes for maximum conditioning. So easy.
You're going to think I'm crazy, but hear me out. Sometimes you'll spend your whole day out sightseeing, and then be too tired to head out in the evening. You'll end up eating room service in your hotel room while watching bad reality TV. If you're travelling alone you'll know what I'm talking about! There's nothing I like doing more than a face mask, so why not pop a couple into your luggage to help you relax? Try one from the Timeless Truth range, like the Deep Sea Extract Moisturising Mask. This will help keep your skin moisturised and hydrated while you travel!
Make Up And Sunscreen
You'll probably be so busy that you won't even have time for your usual morning make up routine. But please do not forget about sunscreen! It doesn't matter if you're travelling to somewhere hot or cold - you should be wearing at least SPF30 on your face every day. To keep things simple I like to use Invisible Zinc Tinted Daywear. It's sunscreen, moisturiser and a sheer foundation all in one. It makes me feel a bit more polished and I know my skin is protected!
Eye Mask and Earplugs
I’m not too good at sleeping on planes or in an unfamiliar hotel. But if I wear an eye mask and earplugs I can almost trick myself into thinking I’m going to sleep – and sometimes it actually works and I do doze off! You’ll be able to purchase both from your local chemist or at the airport before you take off.
Toothpaste and Toothbrush
This is one of the easiest things to forget when you’re heading off on a trip. I don’t know why, since we all use it every day! I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve arrived at my destination and realised my toothbrush is still in my bathroom at home. Brushing your teeth makes you instantly feel fresher. If you're flying you'll want this in your carry-on so you can brush your teeth on the plane.
Travel tip: Save up your sample size products to take in your carry-on luggage. They’ll pass any airport regulations, plus they’re easier to carry around for a long time!
