The countdown is on! Boxes are due to be shipped any day now, so we thought it was the perfect time to open up the pages of our bb diary and spill a bit of the schedule we go through every month to get your beauty boxes to your door!
First off, the Brand Managers get the ball rolling by sourcing the best beauty picks out there for you. Here's Global Brand Director Sam to share more...
"The brand management team start by assessing what kind of products fit with the theme for that month. We consult our bb calendar (wouldn't you love to get your hands on that!) to plan ahead and find the right products for the right month and theme, also taking into consideration the seasons and new product launches (or product relaunches), so you can get your hands on what's current and on-point.
We work with our brand partners - right now, we have over 400 internationally - to find the right products. They also help us to identify the right beauty lovers for their items - for instance, certain age groups for anti-aging items etc. We are also able to use our unique beauty profile information to help decide if a product is right for our boxes.
We are a 'beauty' sample box, so this means that you will receive a mix of 5+ products from all categories of beauty; skincare, hair care, body products, beauty tricks and tools, and of course, we always include one colour product per box (be it makeup, or nail colours). Sometimes, we can include more colour items, and are even lucky enough to be able to give you a full size product from time to time, or a cute lifestyle product. Anything marked as a BONUS on your card is also a little extra treat, not to be confused with your 5 products. These are often sachets containing products that we really do like, so we decided we were really worth the inclusion.
If it is in your box, then one of the brand management team has tried it and thinks (most of!) you will like it, and really believes the brand will add value to your beauty bags, as well as value your opinions in turn. We brand managers try to remember that as sample subscription, the service is all about encouraging you to try new things and sometimes reminding you of brands you might not have tried for a while, so give the products you find in your box a go!"
And when it comes to choosing which products are allocated to which boxes, bellabox founders Sarah and Emily Hamilton are hands on...
"Allocations are an all inclusive affair at bellabox - over 6 staff members are involved in an intensive session to create each of the boxes! In February alone we had over 23 variations!
We discuss who the brands are trying to reach with their products, skin and hair types that would be suitable to trial certain products, and also ways in which we can challenge our members to try new products that might not fit into a category in their beauty profile.
As a team we look at all of the box variations side by side (you need to see our monthly photo wall of bb’s, shown above only half way through the process!) We take into consider colours, size of products, value of bb’s while ensuring that they are relatively equal. We garner all opinions of the bb staffers and give our seal of approval that each bb sent out would serve the purpose of surprising and delighting our members for a mere $15 a month.
The final step involves (beware!) very, very large spreadsheets where we labour over beauty profile data and past bb’s received to determine the best box for each and every member to receive - while it’s not an exact science and we know that there will be cases of 'the grass is always greener', the team tirelessly work to out what we believe is best for you to receive based on the information available and in collaboration with our brand partners".
But before you can try your items, first they've got to get into the box! Here's our Operations and Logistics Director Felicity to spill how this is done!
"All of the products inside our monthly bellaboxes are sourced from different suppliers, so prior to packing the boxes, we work closely with them all to make sure each of your products are delivered to our warehouse on time! Many of you many know, we work with Ability Works Australia who employ, train and support people with disabilities. The team there work hard around the month, not only packing the boxes (during 'go time'!) but also throughout the year to accept and check all our suppliers' stock coming through, as well as fulfilling orders from our online store. Show them some love and head over to their facebook page here!
With the number of bellabox members growing hugely each month, so do the number of boxes that we pack! Scheduling the packing window with our warehouse is a process that is constantly reviewed by the bellabox team to ensure packing is processed quickly and efficiently, so that your boxes arrive to you as timely as possible each month. It’s not an easy task, but one we love, and we are always looking for new ways to get you your boxes faster!"
Once boxes are packed it's SHIPPING TIME! We know you all love this bit the best, so here's some more info from Kayla, our Operations Associate on exactly how it'd done when there are so many to send!
"A major step in getting packed boxes to our members doors is the process of labelling. Every month we receive our address lists from our IT team, and we format these lists in a way suitable to upload to Australia Post. It might sound simple, but this process is definitely a long one, taking up to a full week! This is also why addresses are collected early in the month (so if you change addresses last minute, we can't change the direction of your box journey as it's already begun, even before it's in the hands of your postie).
Our warehouse label every box as they are packed, and boxes await at our warehouse until date of dispatch. In recent months we have changed the way we send out boxes, with all boxes shipped over a couple of days instead of as they are packed (which typically occurs over a longer time of several days). This reduces the delay in many of our members receiving their boxes, especially for those in WA! So never fear if you live far from our Melbourne HQ - we are always working to get your box to you in the most timely way possible! And as we pack our boxes according to box variation, not state, a members location doesn’t affect the date their box is sent.
Members receive a dispatch email when their box is on its way, however Aus post tracking information has proved inconsistent in the past - I know as I head the bb customer service team, so certianly hear you when something goes awry, like tracking. Often, tracking can be slow to update, or sometimes too early with boxes being marked as delivered by your postie, when they’re actually still onboard with the driver, rather than when boxes are actually dropped off! So, we know to ask you to wait at least a full day after your box has been marked to see if it arrives before worrying. Something else we have figured out, is a box can appear to stay in the one place for a long time, when really it's constantly moving closer to you. You posties just may not be scanning the item as it goes along.
If you ever do have any major issues with your box once it arrives, or if you are worried it won't make it's way to you, it's always best to email our customer service team at email@example.com We can then look up all your info, and give you the most accurate account of how we can fix this for you asap".
And then... It's over to you! We love seeing your pics and comments filter through all of our social media channels, and do take all constructive feedback on board. Yes, there is a real person reading each and every one of your comments! Please know our team always aim to dazzle you with your box, and we pride ourselves on offering the best beauty box service for the best price. There are also plenty of other bb staffers behind the scenes in Australia and in Singapore, who are constantly working to make your bb experience the best it can be!
We hoped you enjoyed this little glimpse into our world and can't wait for you all to start receiving your March 'Beauty Diaries' boxes! Enjoy! And remember, if you aren't a member you can
