Heard of the Met Gala before? If not, time to listen up. It's kind of like a dress up party for the rich and very famous - where designers fight over dressing the the very famous... and the rich simply get to rock up and be a part of it all - for a very, very high price no less! This years official theme was "Punk: Chaos to Couture" and some people took the theme more seriously than others! But one thing is for sure - punk is now officially back in a big way! Don't trust me? Just pick up the next issue of Vogue.
But how to steal a touch of this trend without resorting to a punkish quiff or spikey peroxide strands? Why not take your cues from Jamie King and Sienna Miller with a studded headband?
AND why not take it one step further with eyes inspired by Dakota Fanning and Bella Heathcote?
2) Wash your strands. You can decide to go wild and wavy like Sienna, or a little sleeker like Jamie. Personally, I like to sit somewhere in the middle for an everyday look. To keep your locks smooth, without sacrificing on 'oomph' wash with a volumising shampoo and conditioner. I love the Suigo Ultimate Control Shampoo and the Suigo Absolute Volume Keratin Treatment. The shampoo is lovely and fragrant, whilst the treatment is thick and creamy. Shampoo first like usual, then use the treatment in place of your conditioner. You can leave it to sit for 20 minutes as per the instructions, but I find my locks really get a good dose of hydration and body when left for only 5 ( you know the drill - shave legs, exfoliate and do you face cleansing ritual while you wait!) But be sure to apply only to the mid lengths and ends, just like any conditioning prod - apply it to the roots and you'll weigh locks down.
3) Dry your hair. Blowdrying without brushing through will create a messed up look, especially if you are prone to poker straight locks like me and creating a sidepart gives the look a little more edge. Otherwise keep it sleek and run your straightener through once dry. Whilst hair is towel dried, but still a little wet, apply a nourishing oil to the very ends of your hair to prevent spilt ends. I'm obsessed with the Orofluido Beauty Elixir, which smells like a little golden pot of hair perfume heaven. The Midas rule also applies here - your hair will feel as smooth and fluid as liquid gold once dry. But if your ends are in bad need of a trim, you may want to add extra nourishment post blow-dry too. Try the Cedel Dry Conditioner, which foams like a mousse but sinks in fast is tops.
Then, set your headband in place! If your roots are a little limp, a good spritz and toussle with Batiste Dry Shampoo will give them lift. You heard right - not only is this stuff ace for soaking up excess oil, it also adds body to limp and 'overly washed' hair.
4) Time for the eyes! Rather than going too OTT, simply swipe on your favourite liquid liner (mine's the Eye of Horus Liquid Define Eyeliner which doesn't irritate peepers - even after hours of staring at a computer screen) with a slightly more exaggerated line at the outer corners.
Not too punky at all, right? And even though it's a little more edgy the my usual work look, it's in no way NSFW. What do you think? Will you give this new trend a try? Let me know! - Lauren
