Kate Moss is one of the most famous women of our time. And she’s the next lady on our list for the June bellabox Iconic Beauty theme!
Supermodel Kate was discovered in 1988 when she was just 14. At the age of 16 she appeared in British magazine The Face, and the rest was history. This was the age of the curvy supermodel, but skinny Kate ushered in a new waif look which became known as heroin-chic. Kate’s initial splash into the world of fashion wasn’t just a passing phase. Today she is still one of the most in demand models in the world, despite being shorter than the average model at 170cm.
So what are Kate’s beauty secrets? As you can imagine, she’s been asked about these a lot over the years.
Kate’s signature makeup look is smudgy black eyeliner. She prefers kohl to liquid liners. Kate told Vogue she can apply it without a mirror! “It's years of doing it. I just pull the eye, and then smudge the eyeliner over and flick it up. I always use a kohl pencil as it's easier to manage. You can get really good liquid liners now that are easy to use and precise, but if it goes wrong, you still have to start all over again, not like with kohl, when you can smudge it out."
Although she spent her younger years sunbaking on beaches, these days she reaches for the sunscreen when she’s heading out on a hot day. Kate told Vogue, "I was a real sun-worshipper - I loved it, boiling and lying out there. But now I don't do that… Now I have factor 50 - I had never put on factor 50 in my life!" She also goes for a faux glow – she’s the face of St Tropez.
For moisturiser, Kate is a Crème De La Mer fan. Only the best for this beauty icon! For something different, try her little cucumber ritual. Kate explained to InStyle, “Get some ice, put it in the sink, put some cucumber in there, too, and stick your head in it. Apparently, it's an old-school trick that Joan Crawford used to do. The cucumber takes out all the puffiness and redness. It feels amazing! It rocks. I don't do it very often, but if you're tired, it really wakes you up."
And finally, she has a little trick up her sleeve for all those music festivals she goes to. Kate told Glamour, “I love festivals, especially Glastonbury, but I wouldn’t go without my wet wipes.” Ahh Kate. You’re just like us.
