This month, we've chosen the stunning Rachel McAdams as our bella for the month of August - and why wouldn't we?! Not only does she always look great on the red carpet, but she is also an adamant supporter of eco-friendly lifestyle choices, which we are loving this month, as we celebrate Going Green.
Rachel is most well known for her most polar roles. Her turn as nasty Regina George in the hit film Mean Girls saw Rachel play the teenage girl that is the nightmare of most other teenage girls - the Queen Bee. On the other hand her graceful and charming role as Allie in the heartbreaking chick flick The Notebook, showed another totally different side to McAdams, as well as her ability to captivate audiences whether she be the heroine or the anti-hero. After finding huge success with other films such as Wedding Crashers and The Family Stone as well as being labeled the next 'It girl' McAdams decided to take a break. Coming back to the big screen in recent years with headlining titles Sherlock Holmes, Midnight In Paris and The Vow we are excited to get our dose of McAdams once again!
We also love eco-site green is sexy which Rachel helped found with two friends. The cute and super useful site came about when the three ladies realised that exchanging quips & tips on ways to make an impact on the environment was becoming daily conversation - one that they could share with more people to make a difference. Their site promotes the idea that green really is sexy, 'because being informed is sexy. Being responsible is sexy. Being eco-friendly is sexy. Making a difference is sexy. Green is sexy' Now in its fifth year of sharing eco friendly and importantly fun, tip and tricks, check it out now over here.
Rachel is also a bit of a style crush in the bb office. We adore Rachel's look from when she attended the Journey 2: The Mysterious Island premiere earlier this year, where she wore a blue ensemble from Peter Som and naturally chic makeup and hair. Read on for how to steal her style for yourself...
Rachel's beauty look
Rachel's messy waves, lightly kohl rimmed eyes, bright complexion and natural toned lips all work together to make her look both effortlessly chic yet incredibly glamorous at the same time!
To steal her beauty style for yourself, get your hands on a few of the following...
A great brightening serum. We love Comvita's Brightening Facial Serum which harnesses the power of olive leaf extract to support a brighter looking complexion. Unfortunately, foundations can't give you the flawless base you might be wishing for if you don't put some T.L.C into your daily skincare regime too. Luckily, this bb fave serum also includes liquorice root extract, daisy flower extract and pea extract to discourage dark spots and lighten the appearance of discolouration in the skin. Simply apply after cleansing, before bed, and let all of these wonder ingredients get to work on your skin while you sleep. Easy!
The next enviable beauty component of Rach's style? Her lovely lined eyes. To make her peepers pop, Rachel chose a smokey eye pencil in a charcoal shade to line around the lashes, and then looks to have used a liquid liner on top. For extra dimension on her lids, she chose a silver shadow and washed over the entire eye. For a great pack which comes with everything you need to build your own smokey eye, whether it's demure like Rachel's, or even a bolder version, try the MeMeMe Create the Look Pack in Smokey Eyes. Containing a bevy of products as well as a How-to guide to teach you how to nail it, your eyes will be sparkling like Rach's in no time!
We love, love, love Rachel's hair - one of the key parts of her stunning look! Her casual beachy waves give her outfit just the right amount of casual cool. To emulate, simply use a heat styling tool to create messy waves. Finish with a good spritz of hairspray to keep your waves in place (especially if you have dead straight hair like mine!) otherwise they will drop-out mid way through the day. Of course, if you are a slave to your heat styling tool - I really, really love my Cloud9 - you need to make sure you are treating your tresses with a nourishing serum. We love the Royal Moroccan Serum Treatment which includes Argan Oil for nourishment and moisture and provides long lasting conditioning.
To round out Rach's look, grab a naturally toned lipgloss for your pout. The colour should be close to your own lip colour, with a slightly more obvious pigment to make it stand out. To figure out which colour will suit you best, you should actually match your natural coloured lip products to your gums for the most flattering look (strange but true!) We love the range of Savoir Faire Lipglosses which come in five different shades - each with their own unique fresh scent and flavour. Without being sticky, these glosses provide a lightweight texture and beautiful colour.
We also love Rach's outfit, which also perfectly combines the casual aspect of the perfect t-shirt with the sexy side splits of a silk skirt in multiple hues of blue.
If you want to ace this trend, you have to start with a great tee. Look to Asos for similar basics that won't blow the bank.
Next, on to the skirt. Any printed maxi with similar tones to your tee will work, but if you want to stick with the blue look check out these two options below, which come in at totally different price points. Just been paid? Try the A.L.C version from Shopbop. Or if you are cash strapped, look no further than the Warehouse maxi.
Finally, finish your look with a blue clutch bag like Rach's. We love this version from Colette, which can be worn with or without the chain strap. Plus, you can wear it later with a monochrome outfit to add an instant pop of colour.
Do you love Rachel too? Have you ever checked out the 'green is sexy' site before? We just love her effortless style and seemingly lovely presence in the red carpet. Why not give her look a try next time you want to impress? - Lauren
