In honour of both our one year anniversary (otherwise known as party time!) as well as raising awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Look Good... Feel Better during the month of October, we've decided to take a peek into the many wonderful looks of hit party-tune maker and all around amazing Aussie pop princess, Kylie Minogue!
Kylie is one of those ladies who really does the deserve recognition from her first name alone. Ever since her days as a youngster on Neighbours, to rocking that white jumpsuit in 'Can't Get You Outta My Head', Kylie has continued to wow crowds, demographic by demographic, nation by nation. After finding fame as the school girl turned mechanic, Charlene Mitchell, on Neighbours, Kylie not only became the first actor ever to win four Logie Awards in one event, but also became the youngest person to ever win the coveted Gold Logie, as Australia's Most Popular Television Performer, voted by the public.
And then came the singing. After a benefit concert (at a footy club no less!) where she performed 'The Loco-Motion' Kyle's was signed to Mushroom Records in 1987. The very same song became her first single and sold over 200,000 copies! Hot on the Loco-Motion's heels were hits 'I Should Be so Lucky', 'Hand on Your Heart' and 'Better the Devil You Know' before her edgier side shone through in the Nick Cave collab, 'Where the Wild Roses Grow'. Over the years, her musical style and influences have changed, and so has Kylie's favoured looks. However, she always remained the cute little Kylie from Oz, that pop fans continued to love - even during her racey gold hot pants phase - which is probably why it came as such a shock to the public when it was revealed that 'our Kylie' had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Speaking publicaly about her breast cancer perhaps garnered her a different following altogether. Her fight, undertaken in the public eye, was credited by many, noteably by France's Culture Minister Christine Albanel, who praised her for raising cancer awareness in younger women, whilst awarding Kylie the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, France's highest cultural honour. She has also been awarded an honorary Doctor of Health Science degree by the Anglia Ruskin University in the UK for her efforts to raise awareness for breast cancer. These add to her impressive list of ARIA awards, Brit Awards and Grammy Award, not to mention her Officer of the Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) at Buckingham Palace 'for services to music' by the Queen in 2008. It's safe to say - we are still super proud of our Kylie and all of her achievments!
But which looks of hers are bb's faves?
The Natural Glow
We love a little shimmer and shine when it comes to a complexion that looks like it's singing! One of the oldest tricks in the book, and one that almost all the bb girls swear by, is mixing a little liquid illuminator into your foundation before applying. This gives the skin a lovely all over sheen, reflecting the light off of your face and brightening up your whole look. Try the MeMeMe Beat the Blues Liquid Illuminator for a look similar to Kylie's.
The Old Hollywood Glam
Those toussled curls a-top Ms. Minogue's head along with her subtle shimmery eye shadow and soft pink lips look to be inspired by a good dose of old Hollywood glam. One product that Kylie can't seem to 'get out of her head' or live without is a glittery shadow. The Glamorous Minerals Mineral Shimmer Eye Dust is one of our faves. Long lasting, paraben-free, and hypoallergenic, it's also very kind to peepers!
The Red Vixen
Kylie rocks a showgirl red lip like no other! Whilst she can pull of a bold lip and eye, we recommend picking one over the other. If you choose lips, a classic red shade will see you through multiple occassions and events. We love Savoir Faire's Lipstick in Risque which is super creamy and long lasting. Plus, it smells lovely with its vanilla scent. Yum!
And of course, there are a few that are not so wearable...
Which look of Kylie's is your fave? How bout a fave song? Mine is definitely 'Better the Devil You Know'! - Lauren
