This week's Fab Face is none other than Lady Mary Crawley of Downton Abbey - Michelle Dockery! Everywhere you look at the moment, she's been rocking her many stunning awards gowns and has been winning in the beauty stakes too. We loved her look at the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier this week. Debuting a fresh new bob and a super sexy dress, we think her style is an awesome, edgier take on red-carpet beauty. And, quite frankly, we want to copy it for ourselves! Here's how...
Michelle was all about subtly lined eyes this week, and she used a couple of products to create her perfectly prepped peepers. First off, she's chosen a liquid liner to frame her eyes, and drawn in a subtle line along her top lashes, with the smallest of outer flicks. A handy tip for getting the best liquid line possible is to draw (or paint) it on, bit by bit. Don't attempt to apply one long, continuous line, as this is so much harder, and will leave you prone to the wobbles! New to liquid liner? Try the e.l.f Essential Liquid Eyeliner. It's just $3.99 and comes with a super fine tip for simple application. Give it a try! Once you've aced your liquid liner, reach for a pencil liner. My fave is the Eye of Horus Smokey Eye Pencil, which comes with a smudging tip and is super smooth to glide on. For eyes like Michelle, trace the smallest amount of pencil liner underneath your lower lashes and blend slightly. Remember to keep the liner away from your waterline, and more 'in-between' your lashes. This way, your eyes will look much brighter and your lashes fuller, just like Lady Mary's. Nice! Michelle has also encorporated a matte black shadow with a silvery seen on the upper brow bone, like this one from Face of Australia. Finish with some lengthening mascara!
I love the slight terracotta shade of Michelle's red lip! It has a little bit of a burnt red quality, whilst still falling into the deep crimson camp, and it looks lovely on Michelle's peaches and cream complexion. A great tip for finding the right shade to suit you, when searching for the perfect lip colour, is to take notice of what shades certain celebs are rocking. Find someone whose skin tone, hair colour and eye colour you think are similar to yours and keep an eye out on what shades suit them the best. Chances are they'll be debuting the hottest shades out, as well as the ones that will suit your colourings too. Easy! After some searching, I think Michelle's lip colour is pretty similar to the Savoir Faire Lipgloss in Fierce. My go-to celeb with similar colourings? Sophia Bush. Who is yours?
Michelle's mani was also attention grabbing, and not for the usual reasons. Instead of trialing quirky nail art, or a bold and loud colour, she opted for a simple yet classic pale hued mani. And her nails were still snapped and plastered all over the best dressed lists, proving that sometimes, keeping it simple really is the best beauty policy! For a perfectly painted mani in a one-stop-nail-shop, you can't go past the MeMeMe Cosmetics The Nail Care Collection set. Notice how it complements her edgy clutch too? A real beauty win.
