For this week's Fab Faces we talk to the beautiful and bubbly Shelley Craft about all things The Block, beauty, babies and her latest fashion/web venture Hanger Nation.
What does the concept of ‘beauty’ mean to you?
The concept of beauty is definitely a feeling and emotion rather than a look to me. If you feel comfortable and confident and happy, you will exude beauty.
Our theme at bellabox this month is ‘Pamper Yourself, Pamper Your Mum’. How has becoming a mum changed the way you approach your own beauty routine?
I think I am actually more aware of the changes in my skin now, than I ever was before children. I guess pregnancy makes you aware that things are changing daily and that includes your skin and hair. Although if you are going to do a little more than a quick scrub in the shower, you have to be quick!
Do you have any childhood memories of watching your mum getting ready and did she ever pass on any beauty tricks or advice to you?
My mum always wears make up and she was actually a Revlon beautician before she had children. Mum has the most beautiful eyes and I have tried to copy her style many times, to no avail. Eyeliner was and still is her key to a great look.
Since becoming a mum yourself, how do you like to celebrate Mother’s Day?
I am so proud of my role as a mum, it is a real time of reflection for me. I don’t care what we do as long as my baby is with me.
What is your can’t-live-without beauty product?
At the moment… it is Face Fabric by Armani.
We love the concept behind Hanger Nation, and the ease of having everything ‘fashion’ at our fingertips in the one place. What inspired you to found the site?
I am a buy it when I need it kind of girl and window shopping and browsing are definitely a thing of the past now. When I shop, it has to be quick and is usually for something I need to wear that day – so HN was really an excuse for me to see all the latest fashion from Australian designers in my own time. I hope other busy women find it as useful as I do.
Here at bellabox, we are all obsessed with The Block! What is your favourite thing about your role on the show and are you a fiend for interiors and home wares outside of work too?
I love design as much as I do fashion and my mantra for both is the same… style and character over “in-fashion”. My role on The Block lets me live through the 4 teams and experience so many different ideas of what makes a great home. Very confusing when it comes to my own home renos though – you want to add a little of everything!
Would you rather spend up big on fashion or home wares - or is it too hard to choose?
To be honest, homewares is my Achilles heel and always has been. I am happy to skimp on clothes – but not for things in my home.
Have you learnt any tips or tricks from getting your makeup applied professionally for television?
Yes, let the pros do it! When I do my own, I keep it very simple and fresh.
Lastly, what is your idea of getting truly pampered?
A big ‘cuggle’ from my daughter Milla and not having to pick up the dog poop for the day!!
We bet Shelley would love one of our favourite scrubs here at bb for some quick beauty pampering; the One Skin System Active C Scrub. Derived from the sea with powerful Wakame (Japanese Sea Algae) that exfoliates, stimulates and activates skin to a healthy vitality, this scrub only needs a couple of minutes of massaging into the skin during shower time to be effective, especially when used 2-3 times a week. Winner!
We love Shelley's natural beauty look - her makeup always looks fresh, rather than 'caked-on' when she appears on our TV screens. For those of you who also love the no-makeup-look-that-still-requires-wearing-makeup we recommend Bloom's Cream Blush Duo. This fab compact comes with a creamy illuminiser and blush in one. Super sheer and easy to blend, you can use the soft formulas, that are enriched with essential oils, to enhance cheek bones (blush) and to accentuate your brow bone, inner eye, and along the bridge of your nose (illuminator) Enriched with evening primrose oil, jojoba oil and scented with pure lavender essential oil, this little compact will become your new favourite beauty staple is no time!
Our top beauty picks for Shelley would have to include a little something for her cute daughter Milla too! We love Yes to Baby Carrots Nourishing Baby Lotion which moisturises, soothes and conditions with it's 100% natural, hypoalergenic formulation of fresh carrots and rich cocoa butter. Plus it feels great under little jammies after bath time!
We'd like to thank Shelley for her time and for sharing her beauty thoughts with us! You can catch Shelley on The Block on channel 9 on weeknights now and also as the host of Australia's Funniest Home Videos.
