How do you go from the gym to dinner, drinks or the theatre in five minutes when you’ve got no time to go home and get ready? I faced this dilemma this week, and this is the tale of how I went from gym rat to respectable theatregoer in less than five minutes. I had to go straight from work to a Hypoxi workout, which are booked in advance. I finished my workout at 6.30, and had to be in the city at 7.15 to meet my family to see Les Miserables. I also needed to fit in dinner, and considering the run time for Les Mis is about three hours it had to be a proper meal not a snack! There was no time to go home to change, and no showers available for me to rinse down in. I realised while I was doing this that many of us do this every day. How often do people exercise at lunch time and then go back to the office? Or exercise in the morning and then head straight to a cafe for lunch? These tips can work for so many different situations. Here are the obligatory before and after selfies. They were taken in different bathroom stalls. I wasn't going for full glamour makeup - I just wanted to even out my skin and feel clean enough to sit and watch a musical without feeling sweaty or messy.
Before I headed in for my workout, I coated my lashes in Anastasia Lash Genius Waterproof Topcoat to protect my mascara. This would mean one less thing to worry about later on, as it would keep my lashes looking long and full during my workout. I also had deodorant in my bag – it’s up to you whether you want spray or roll on. You know best what works for you. In my bag I had the absolute basics. In the photo below you can see the lineup. This was really all I had.
This is how I used each of these products: Swisspers Facial Wipes: I had no time for a shower, but luckily my years of backpacking through SE Asia have got me more than prepared for a Swisspers bath. I cleaned my sweaty face, and then gave my body a quick wipe down. I followed this with a spray of deodorant under my arms. Natralus Hand Sanitiser: My Hypoxi studio is incredibly clean, but the gym can be a dirty place. A quick spritz of hand sanitiser over your hands will kill any germs. Polished London Dry Shampoo: Dry shampoo is a must. I sprayed this onto my roots, and rubbed it through for extra volume. My go-to quick style is a side braid, which I can put together in less than 30 seconds. A top knot or high pony tail are both a quick pulled together styles that you can achieve with nothing but a hair tie. L'Oreal Base Magique Primer: Once my skin was clean I applied L’Oreal Base Magique to my face. This creates an even skin surface and smoothes pores, and helps my makeup last longer. My skin needs primer, no matter what type of foundation I’m wearing. Rimmel BB Cream: No time for complicated foundation techniques! Simply apply BB Cream with your fingertips and blend all over your face to even out your skin. Of course you can add some concealer in any areas that need extra attention. Australis Lip & Cheek Combo in Flamingo Skies: A combo product that you can apply with your fingers is going to get you out of the bathroom much quicker. I blended the peachy shade across my cheeks for a quick glow and dabbed the pink onto my lips. I love this product because you can layer it for a more intense colour. Anastasia Clear Brow Gel: I smoothed out my eyebrows and locked them in place with Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel. I was ready in five minutes. I ran out the door, jumped on the tram and was at the theatre with enough time to grab a bite to eat and have a drink. My family were shocked that I had just been at the gym, but this is also possibly because they know I don’t enjoy working out. I felt clean and fresh and just as presentable as anyone around me. Of course this is totally dependent on the type of makeup is important to you. I was focused on evening out my complexion. Can you do a mean cat eye in two seconds flat? Bring your eyeliner. Need big eyelashes? You should have your favourite mascara in your bag. Feel naked without red lipstick? BB Cream and lippie is all you need. But make sure you only bring the products you intend to use with you. Don’t bring your entire beauty arsenal, as this will just tempt you to use it.
