I don't know about you, but I really thought cheat sheets were the key to a acing a test back in high school. No need to study for weeks before, as long as I had a good cheat sheet to take in with me, all the problems on the pages in front of me would make sense. And if they couldn't magically solve themselves, I'd consult the sheet, and it'd all fall into place. Pie equals MC squared, yada yada yada and all that jazz.
It obviously didn't quite work out that way, and call me lazy, but the idea of cheat sheets are still appealing to me. A learn it all fast must-have. With this in mind, I compiled a makeup cheat sheet for those days when your brain can't quite think or you don't know where to start...
Apply your base products in this order (after cleansing and toning):
And just sub-out the products you don't use/don't have time to apply and continue with the next!
Wait 2 minutes in between applying your key base products (the first 4 on this list) i.e. Moisturise (wait 2 mins - brush your teeth), sunblock (wait 2 mins - floss), prime (wait 2 mins - brush your hair). It'll give your skin time to slightly drink in the product and let it settle and climatise to your skin temperature before slapping the next prod on, and it getting all mixed up on your face.
Apply your bronzer in a big 3 shape on either side of your face (one side will be a back-to-front 3!)
Apply your blush two-to-three finger-widths away from the sides of your nose. This way, it'll always be even on each side!
Start with a colour closest to your skin tone, or a slightly paler one - bisuct shades are always good.
A simple smokey eye is easy if you keep the darkest shadow closest to the eye/lashes. Start with the lightest shadow after your base colour, and apply almost all over the lid, then the next darkest, and next darkest, until you are getting really close and precise towards your lashes. Then blend, blend, blend.
Or, if you are in a real rush, draw on the one colour of khol liner around the lashes, and smudge and blend until it's all smokey!
Put your finger tip into a pale shimmery shadow (gold, peach, silver work best) and dot in the inside corner of your eye for an illuminating and wide-awake look.
Curl your lashes before applying liquid/gel liner, so you don't smudge it with your curler when getting right into the roots.
Apply mascara with the uptown, downtown, across town trick: brush upwards from root to tip. Close your eyes (almost) and apply from root to tip 'downwards' from lid (on the top of your lashes) to the tips. Then go across town; get your brush right into the roots and zig zag from side to side, wiggling as you go to seperate lashes. Killer lashes achieved!
If you are going to an event with lots of talking or drinking and not much time in, don't wear a bold lip. Or, pick a nude colour, that won't be as obvious when it needs repplying.
If your lips are already a little dry don't wear a matte lipstick - it'll make them feel and probably look even dryer.
