Ever seen those amazing photos of Ombré nails on pinterest or in your favourite glossy mag and wondered how to get them for yourself without going out and buying 5 polishes in a similar tone? Well bb is here to show you how...
Start with freshly filed nails, painted with a clear base coat.
Pick your polish shades. I've chosen a bold coral tone (bb fave Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Colour) but any bold hue would work! Other tones I plan on trying the ombré look out with include Mode's xoxo. Just remember, the shade you start with will be your darkest shade, so pick one that is a block colour (jelly or shimmer/glittery shades don't work as well).
You'll also need a pale grey, white or nude (as long as it has a lot of pigment) polish. This will be used to adjust the shade of the coloured polish you start with! I used Ozotic's341 Light Grey.
Time to start painting! Paint your first nail the regular shade of your bright polish (I did this on my index finger)
Next, mix a little of the grey/white polish into a splotch of the the bright shade. You can use an old tin lid, a paper plate or egg carton as a palette. I also just used the brush from the bright polish, but if you want to keep it super clean, you can also use a clean makeup brush or paint brush, and clean it with nail polish remover between each nail and differing shade. Then paint your next finger along (middle finger).
Then, you simply keep mixing and painting! Custom mix each colour to have a little more grey/white and a little less of the bright shade as you go, so that your nails will progressively get lighter. This is a small snippet of what my palette looked like by the end of all of the mixing!
And the finished product...
Not too bad for a first try! Will you give it a go? Have you tried it before? Let us know! - Lauren
