This week, we talk you through the easy steps for playing up your peepers, like the lovely Ms. Mila Kunis - because daayum, that girl's got stunning eyes! Here are the three tips to makeup your eyes the focus, and trust us, they couldn't be easier!
Get your concealer right
Before you scramble for your liners and shadows, be sure to get the basics down first. Applying a creamy concealer to your lids, as well as the general eye area, not only evens out any pigmentation/dark circles/small capillaries underneath the eyelid, it also acts as a great foundation for your eye makeup to stick to. We are devotees of the Savoir Faire Concealer and Finishing Powder here at bb for three reasons. 1. It comes with two shades of concealer, so you can use the lighter shade on your dark circles and the darker shade on other areas (such as blemishes) plus, there are three shades available - light, medium and dark - so you'll easily find your colour matches. 2. It also comes with a finishing powder. This is tops for sweeping over your applied concealer, to help set it in place and make it last even longer. Win! 3. The sturdy case is the perfect size for toting with you, for touch ups on the go, and is hardy enough not to break at the 'drop' of a clutch or handbag. Apply pre-shadow and liner, and then again for any touch ups right at the end of your makeup artistry!
Pick the best eye makeup for your needs
Now it's time for the actual eye makeup. For a stunning eye like Mila's which sits somewhere between a smokey look and a lushly lined eye, apply a light, shimmery shadow all over the lid first. This reflects the light and opens up the eye area - which is important if you are going to add lots of dark liner in the next step. It's all about balancing the look! Try the ibeauty cosmetics Eyeshadow Refill in 'Shimmer'. Next, it's all about the liner. If you get your hands on a smudging liner with plenty of pigment, you won't even need to use a darker shadow to achieve the look - and less products not only means less time on makeup application, but is also friendlier on your wallet! My must have liner is the Eye of Horus Smokey Eye Pencil. You've probably heard me prattle on about it before, but I am yet to find a liner as creamy, smudgable and mega-black.
Draw the fine tipped pencil all around your eye, just leaving the inner top and bottom corners liner free. See how Mila's liner is focussed around her lashes? Again, this helps to keep the eye 'open' looking and most importantly, super bright and big! Once you've drawn it on, it's time to start smudging. This look is a little worn-in, carefree, and sexy, so don't worry about being as precise as you would with a liquid liner. Once you've smudged, step back and a take a look. Do you need to add a little more depth to your liner? If it's looking a little grey, rather than black, add more liner right up close to your lashes, or even on the inside of the lashes, on your waterline. And don't be worried if you look like you've been knocked in the eye. Without your mascara, the look is nowhere near complete! Which is why you'll need an amazing lash lengthener in your life if you want to emulate Mila. My current pick? The Clinique High Impact Mascara. I'm not a fan of spidery lashes, so this mascara fits the bill. It lengthens lashes and puts the focus on them, without looking OTT. Make it the last step of your eye makeup, and you are nearly there!
Keep the rest simple
The final step in playing up your peepers, actually has nothing to do with your eyes! Take a look a Mila one more time. What do you notice about the rest of her look? It's pretty toned down and simple. Especially her lips. She's often snapped on the RC with neatural, natural looking lips and this is really quite clever! It keeps all the focus on her stunning eyes, and plays into the golden beauty rules - eyes OR lips. And with eyes like those, it's no wonder she always chooses to accentuate them! Try a nude, or rose coloured gloss to complete the look, without letting your lips outshine your pretty peepers! We love the Yes to Carrots C Me Shine Lipgloss in 'Playful Nude' or 'Rose Bliss' which are exclusive to the bb online store!
And tadaaaa! Mila's eyes should be on your face! But sorry, you won't have Ashton Kutcher staring back at you. Though you will have an amazing eye look of your very own! Do you love Mila's eyes too? Or are you more of a bold lip girl? Let us know! - Lauren
