Jennifer Aniston is one of my style icons. To me she represents healthy living and a relaxed, fresh style. But could I live like her for a week? It was time to find out.
Jennifer is the face of Aveeno. One of the flagship products in the Aveeno range is the Daily Moisturising Lotion, a fragrance free, non-greasy lotion that contains natural colloidal oatmeal blended with rich emollients. This moisturiser is clinically proved to moisturise skin for 24 hours and improve your skin in two weeks. Thus the idea behind the Aveeno 14 day journey, where you apply the moisturiser every day and see how your skin improves.
Since we sampled the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion I decided to take the Aveeno 14 Day Challenge. But an article about me putting moisturiser on every day for two weeks might not quite hold your attention (spoiler alert: my skin felt wonderful at the end!). So I thought I’d try and live like Jennifer Aniston for those 14 days. Then I realised that was crazy, and decided to live like Jennifer for just one week, the second week of my 14 day challenge.
Would I be able to live like Jen for a whole week? I honestly had my doubts. I don’t have a personal chef, I’m not a multi-millionaire Hollywood star and I’m not too enthusiastic about exercise. As there is no reputable Jennifer Aniston diet and exercise guide available on the internet, I decided to incorporate different aspects of her life into my daily routine over the next seven days.
Thanks for the encouragement Jen
Monday: I had already been using the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion for a week, applying it all over my body. I found that it absorbed really easily, and my dry winter skin was looking and feeling much smoother after just one week. So it was time to focus on being Jennifer. She lives a very active lifestyle, and does cardio nearly every day. She also loves yoga.
I don’t love cardio or yoga, but at the moment I am doing Hypoxi three times a week. These half hour workouts are designed to burn fat, and I feel that although Jen doesn’t do Hypoxi she would love it. I put my Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion all over my body after my workout and my dry winter skin instantly absorbed it, leaving me feeling hydrated but not greasy.
Tuesday: This was a failure of a Jen day. I ate French fries and ice cream. I don’t believe that Jen would approve. However, I applied my Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion and watched two episodes of Friends. I also spent a lot of time researching Jen’s diet. She eats a lot of healthy, organic food. After coming across a lot of conflicting information about Jen’s diet I discovered a recipe book written by her personal chefs Jewels and Jill. Success! I went out for a drink and ordered a margarita (Jen’s favourite) to celebrate.
Wednesday:For dinner tonight I followed one of Jewels and Jill’s recipes for Chickpea Salad. I didn’t have cucumber or parsley, so I just added extra avocado. Of course. Here’s the recipe for your enjoyment:
2 cans garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained and rinsed ½ small red onion, diced small 4 ripe roma tomatoes, seeded and diced small 1 ripe avocado, diced small 2 persian cucumbers, peeled in stripes and diced small handful of flat leaf parsley, roughly chopped 2-3 glugs extra virgin olive oil juice from ½ a lemon Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl.
I loved it. So simple and healthy.
Thursday: Weflew up to Sydney for a bellabox event, and this really made me feel close to Jen. She travels often for work, and now so do I. She sits in first or business class, and I walked past the business class seats on the way to my economy seat. The catering at our event was extremely healthy, and I think Jen would approve. I took my Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion on the plane with me and applied it to my hands when they felt dry. I really like that the lotion is fragrance free. It means that it doesn't interfere with any perfumes I might choose to wear, and it's also great for anyone that is sensitive to fragrances in their beauty products.
Friday:Today I decided to think about my hair. Jennifer has the most perfect hair in the world. I think we’re all aware of this. The Rachel was life defining, and in 1997 I attempted to copy that style. It failed. However I thought I might be able to copy her 2014 long sleek locks. Jennifer uses Living Proof, and luckily when I was in America last year a sales assistant sat me down in Sephora and showed me the entire Living Proof line and also curled my hair. I was very jet lagged. Someone from Living Proof was taking photos of me on an iPad while this happened, but despite checking all their social media accounts I never found any trace of them. What this does mean is that I have a huge number of Living Proof samples at home. I blow dried my hair using the Prime Style Extender and Thickening Cream, and it did look very soft and bouncy. Of course I later had to pull it up into a topknot for Hypoxi, but it held up surprisingly well. And annoyingly I didn't take any photos of my beautiful hair - so here's The Rachel instead.
The hairstyle of my pre-teen dreams
Saturday:I started my day with a chemical peel and extraction facial. Jen doesn’t exactly need facials, but in the past she has tried laser peels and said they made her face "fall off". Well after my extraction facial my skin looked pretty red and sore, and I knew that it would start peeling in the next few days. So I really understood how Jen felt. I went straight to Hypoxi after this, and did a great workout.
Sunday: I thought I should probably try a bit of yoga, since Jen talks about it so often. So I went on YouTube and watched a few yoga videos. Then I lay on the floor and pretended to stretch. Jennifer’s love for Mexico is well known thanks t her regular trips to Cabo, and she loves eating Mexican food. I have also been to Cabo, and I like Mexican food. So today I had nachos. She suggests making your own chips by cutting up a tortilla and drying it in coconut oil, but I just used corn chips. They were really good. My skin was feeling silky smooth already but I still added my final dose of Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion to my body. Was my week really over?

Verdict:The easiest part of the challenge was applying my Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion every day. I had that down to an artform, and my skin is thanking me for it. Living like a Hollywood star is kind of hard, and it's pretty obvious that I failed to live like Jen. I did keep up Hypoxi three times a week, and tried to eat healthier food. Jen actually has a pretty healthy lifestyle, based around organic food and exercise. This is something we can all incorporate into our lives! I didn't try to dress like her because I don't have the funds for Hollywood outfits, but I think I captured some of her essence during the week. Aveeno products can be found in all major supermarkets, pharmacies and specialty stores across Australia.
