This month at bellabox is all about iconic beauty. That doesn’t just mean beautiful women – it also means brands that have become icons and changed the way we think about skincare and makeup. Brands that have instantly recognisable names and logos, that are familiar not only to beauty addicts like ourselves but also your friends and family members who might only have a passing familiarity with skincare and beauty!
Olay is one of those brands. It has become a fixture in the world of skincare, and is a brand that everyone recognises and trusts. There is a product for everyone, from Olay Fresh Effects through to the Age Defying Series for the first signs of ageing and Olay Regenerist for advanced anti-ageing.
As with so many iconic brands, Olay had a tiny little start. It was created by chemist Graham Wulff in the 1950s as a gift for his wife Dinah. She wasn’t happy with the face creams that were available at the time, as they were thick and waxy and left her skin feeling greasy. Together they experimented with different formulas, until the legendary Oil Of Olay Beauty Fluid was perfected. It started in South Africa, but eventually expanded to other countries.
The product was a success across the world, where it was marketed under various names. Olay was launched in Australia as Oil Of Ulan. It was an incredibly popular range, and you probably remember the many television ads that aired over the years! In 1999 the Australian name was changed to Olay to bring it in line with the rest of the world. For those of us who were used to Oil of Ulan this was a bit of an adjustment, but now we couldn’t imagine it being any different. The products haven’t changed – in fact the range has only expanded over the years.
Everyone has probably used an Olay product at some stage in their lives. For me, Olay's Complete Defence SPF30+ Daily Moisturising Lotion is a part of my everyday routine. I can't tell you how many bottles of this cream I've purchased over the years! It protects my skin from the sun, moisturises and it doesn't make me break out. I apply it after washing my face, before I put on my primer and makeup.
Olay Regenerist is one of the most highly regarded lines within the Olay range. Now I know a lot of people think you need to go for the most expensive skincare to fight ageing - or that you need to get a surgeon involved. But that is just not the case. Olay has proven time and time again that they know skincare. The Regenerist line contains Olay's amino-peptide complex to regenerate skin's appearance without drastic measures.
While Olay has become very well known for their excellent skincare for older skin (who can forget the 7 signs of ageing?), they actually have products for all ages. Fresh Effects is designed to deep clean, hydrate and refresh your skin, which is perfect if you're young and starting to get more serious about taking care of your skin. Olay recently signed The Face Australia winner Olivia as the Fresh Effects spokesperson. So now there's even more reason to start using Olay as a teenager and continue with it for your whole life.
