Lauren Roberts, the Managing Editor of bellabox Australia
Hi there! Let me introduce myself. I’m Lauren, the Managing Editor here at bellabox Australia, so it’s a given that I am partial to emulating any and every beauty trend I deem amazing (often as seen on Kate Bosworth, Diane Kruger and Rachel Bilson) Well, I try to emulate them. Sometimes successfully, other times not so much. But that's half the fun of the beauty game, right? After all, how will you ever learn to master a liquid winged eye and false lashes if you don't ever try it in the first place (even if you end up looking more like Liza Minnelli in Cabaret than Kim Kardashian in the process)? I also enjoy dipping my coral red toes – a polish colour trending in my collection since 2003 – into the fashion pool from time to time. My current fave inspirations are Ashlea Madekwe and her amazing blog 'Ring My Bell', Leandra Medine of 'The Man Repeller' blog fame and Whitney Port - especially after drilling her for all her beauty tips last week at her Sportsgirl event!
Writing about my two great interests is one of my favourite pastimes, so you could say that it was very lucky I landed this gig at bellabox! But my passion for this work was kind of a long time coming…
After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History, and attempting (note: attempting!) to complete a post-grad Law Degree I finally found my feet by enrolling to complete a Masters of Communications. It was here that I wrote my thesis on the influence of beauty blogging and online word of mouth recommendations within the wider beauty industry. Many people said it was a waste of time. I disagreed… and look where I ended up!
After winning the amazing Sportsgirl Go Global Blogger Competition last year, which saw me travelling the world writing about fashion, I had more confidence to follow a career in writing professionally.
Fast-forward to 2012 and here I am, in an amazing job where I get to play with some of the best, cult and up-and-coming beauty products around, and write about them to my hearts content! As part of my job I write the majority of the beauty articles and blog posts for the bellabox online magazine as well as lots of other bb info, including the cards contained in each month’s box – and I really hope you enjoy all of them!
My current beauty obsessions:
The list is long but here goes! NARS anything – mainly their multiple illuminating sticks, liquid illuminators and bronzer. Bare Minerals translucent mineral powder is also top of my beauty list when it comes to my everyday base. I love Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm – super cheap (I’m talking under $4) and moisturising. Win! Dior Show mascara is also a fave, as well as L’Oreal nail polishes. I find them really long wearing and that they come in a great range of shades. I also love bright lipstick! My picks are MAC (in Girl About Town, Morange and Brave) and Revlon ColourBurst Lipstick in Cherry Red. And I cannot go past Clarins Flash Beauty Balm – I wear it everyday… along with millions of other women worldwide. It’s true what they say. It’s cult for a reason!
My Favourite bellabox products:
Another long list! Definitely Erborian’s BB Crème au Ginseng in the darkest shade. I mix it with my Clarins balm to get a sheer coverage, perfect for the working week. I have noticed it is kinder to my skin than full coverage foundations too, which is a bonus!
I love the range of Savoir Faire mini lipsticks we have in store too. When they came in, I reached for the darkest shade, Opulence. It is bold but I really like it. Another great shade is Showgirl (below) which is perfect for Spring/Summer. They are so cheap, it's really worth trying them out for the quality/price factor alone!
Finally, I love the Kosmea’s Hydrating Rosewater Mist. So refreshing, this makes my skin feel oh-so amazing. I apply it straight out of the shower once my skin is dry. It feels like it sinks into my skin faster after I emerge from all that steam (I’ll admit it; I love hot showers!) I also decanted some into a smaller bottle for my sis when she flew to the states recently as it is perfect for long plane rides. This little number has also been known to grace many a bb desk in summer for a refreshing pick-me-up mid-afternoon!
I hope you enjoyed meeting me! I love writing about all things bellabox for you, so please don't be afraid to get in touch with any suggestions about what you'd like to see more of! Plus, feel free to comment on anything you read, and I'll always try to get back to you! As always, thank you, thank you, thank you for reading - Lauren
