Hair is one of the most important aspects of any girls beauty routine. Don't believe me? Ask one having a bad hair day (if you're the brave type) how they are feeling. The answer probably won't be great! You see, even if your skin is looking clear and your makeup is applied perfectly, if you're having a bad hair day, everything else will feel sub-par too.
On the other hand, if your mane is looking fine, you'll probably be the owner of mega-watt confidence, even if you've got a mean pimple on your chin. It's simply the power of great hair! The only catch; to get yours looking good you need to get it healthy first. Here's our instensive boot camp guide to stunning tresses.
SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
Shampoo is easily overlooked when it comes to the beauty game. Conditioners often seem to have all the fun - nourishing, moisturising and getting the credit for leaving your locks looking silky and smooth in general! But you need a gentle cleansing conditioner to get the ball rolling. Look for one that cleanses without tangling. I love Terax Miele Hydrating Shampoo which includes honey and elder flower to provide antioxidant protection. If your hair has seen a little too much hairspray, or other heavy styling products of late, you can always shampoo locks twice for a thoroughly deep cleanse before conditioning.
I love to follow with the Terax Original Crema Conditioner. This award winning conditioner has become renowned for a reason! Not only does it protect hair from breakage, natural damage and restores split ends, it also helps to combat static electricity - great for those who use heat styling products which can have a drying effect on the hair, leading to annoyingly sticky static! This conditioner is also tops for helping to prevent colour fade - great for those with semi permanents and foils alike!
A hair mask is a lovely treat when used one a weekly basis. Look for one that acts as a substitute for your regular conditioner, making it simple to use. A hair mask should give your hair the benefits that a face mask does for your skin - boosted hydration, nourishment and a glowy shine. I am a big fan of Royal Moroccan Hair Mask Treatment, which has just been stocked in the bb store - hooray! It contains the argan oil that you'd expect from Royal Moroccan products but also houses olive oil, keratin and vitamin E for strength and shine. Smooth over your ends instead of your conditioner and leave for 5 minutes before rinsing out (tip: put on before exfoliating and shaving your legs and wash out once done to make the most of your shower time and not waste heaps of water waiting for it to work!)
A styling product is a must, for all hair types. Not only do they protect your locks from styling damage due to heating tools, like hair dryers, straighteners and barrel curlers to name a few, they also help to tame frizz, hold styles in place and add shine to hair. Of course, you could look for a styling product that does one of these things. Or, you could just reach for one that does all of them! Here at bb we are loving USpa's Beehold. This styling gel does all of the above plus contains honey, ylang, ylang and orange blossom to give a lovely smell to locks as well as some natural goodness.
Haven't tried a dry shampoo before? Well then, please accept my invitation for you to jump on the clean-hair-for-lazy-girls bandwagon! Dry shampoos are ideal for hiding hair that's one day too far past being acceptable if you haven't had time to wash it (we've all been there) But they are also great for adding volume to lank locks too. As the owner of very straight strands that can look a little flat from time to time, a few spritzs of the dry stuff at the roots help to give it some much needed lift. It's also great for helping get a few more days out of a professional blow dry, toting to the gym for hair that looks more clean than sweaty after you've left the change rooms, as well as for use whilst travelling. Try Klorane's Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk with a fine powder mist that sinks into your scalp fast. Just remember to spray at the roots and hold at least 15 cms away from the hair (so you don't end up with big powdery patches) rub or brush through and you are good to go!
With these simple products in your beauty kit, your hair should not only feel a lot healthier but look like its in great condition too. And you know what that means? Hopefully a whole lot less bad hair days! Do you use any of the products above? Tell me what you think of them - I'd love to know! - Lauren
