Do you remember when your mum used to get ready for a big night out? I do! I’d sit and watch her blow dry her hair, put on her jewellery and inhale the lingering scent of her final touch; a spritz of YSL Paris. She was probably just going out to a simple dinner at our local pizza restaurant, but as a little girl, watching mum's routine of getting ready, it felt to me like she was going to a ball!
We wonder how the little ones of these Hollywood starlets felt when watching their 'moms' prep for New York's night of nights - the Met Gala. Granted, some would be too young to realise what their mum was even doing, whilst others would be too old to probably care where she was going! But despite this, it is always nice to see mums donning the latest looks and getting their glam on. Afterall, they probably deserve it more than anyone else! Read on for our pick of some of the best ladies on the night.
Liv Tyler in Givenchy Couture and shining hair
Liv Tyler has always sported a lush mane of silky smooth hair and last night was no exception! To get your hair camera-ready, try Nak's Aroma Oil on wet hair, right after washing. Nak provides thermal and colour protection as well as controling frizz and restoring dry, damaged hair. What a multi-tasker!
Another great tip for getting really shiney locks is to turn your tap onto cold right at the end of your shower and dunk your head in for 30 seconds. The cold water 'closes up' hair folicles, much the same way that the cold blast button on your hair dryer does, making your hair sleeker in the process. I know it is autumn (but often feels like winter!) but try not to cheat and stick your head under hot water again as the results will be ruined! To stop from giving yourself the flu, save it for special occasions!
Sofia Vergara in Marchesa and a berry lip
Hot mumma Sofia is best known for her role as Gloria from Modern Family, where she plays Columbian beauty and helicopter mother to her on-screen son, Mani, to hilarious effect. Last night she kept one thing in common with her bombshell character, and that was evident in her choice of berry lip colour. Good thing she did, as Sofia looks amazing with a burst of sultry stain on her pout (and what a winning smile!) For a similar colour that won't disappear after a few champagnes, try OCC Lip Tars in 'Strumpet'. These super pigmented stains combine the longevity of a lipstick with the application of a gloss (we recommend using a lip brush to apply as they are truly very pigmented and need to be applied with precision!)
Jessica Alba in Michael Kors and deep dark nails
Jess is something of a favourite here at bb right now - check out our latest bella's anatomy article where Alba is featured - and her golden look from last night cements her as one of our leading ladies of style right now! She looked replendant in golden Michael Kors (look at him loving it in the background!) Jess kept her makeup simple and classic so as not to compete with that amazing dress, but she did play with her nails, painting them a dark and mysterious hue. We love this look for the winter season and can't go past our new favorite, Ulta3 in Enchanted, the perfect metallic hue (check out 'more nail polish' beauty blog for the entire Ulta3 colour range!) Available at leading chemists and pharmacies nationally.
January Jones in Versace and a sheer coral lip
January looked amazing at the Met Gala, especially considering she is a new and single mum! Choosing an out-there coloured dress, January kept the rest of her look fairly classic and fuss-free, save for her choice of a sheer coral lip. The bright pop of colour looks stunning against her fair complexion and hair colour without being too loud. Savior Faire have included a sweet coral shade of lipgloss in their Limited Edition "Pour etre désirée" (Summer) Kit, which is perfect for fairer skined ladies. The summer colours of the kit run through the six eyeshadows and shimmery bronzer. Plus an eyeliner and mascara are also enclosed in the cute case, along with a small mirror. Perfect for touch-ups throughout the night!
Amy Adams in Giambattista Valli and luminious skin
Even though Amy's little girl is only a couple of years old, we bet she thought her mum looked beautiful as she made her way to the Met Gala. And we agree! Amy looked resplendant in silky cream with black and gold accents, with her cascading strawberry blonde hair being the perfect accessory. The finishing touch to Amy's look? Her lovely, luminous skin - she obviously takes good care of it! To keep your skin in the best condition possible, always wear products containing SPF to deter sun damage, as well as being diligent with removing your makeup every night before bedtime (even if you feel like you can't be bothered!) A great brightening product will also help give you luminious skin results. We recommend Comvita Brightening Facial Exfoliant which contains olive leaf extract to support a brighter complexion without drying the skin.
The Met Gala certainly saw a few ladies frock up in crazy dresses but we think these mums all pulled off their looks beautifully. Which look did you love the most? Do you remember watching your mum get ready when she was primping for a (well deserved) night out? Let us know! - Lauren
