We threw a 'Pretty in Pink Party' during our birthday month of October, and to celebrate, we brought you 4 fun party looks! Let's recap and revisit with October's Party Makeup Review.
WEEK 1 - PINK PARTY LOOK
What better way to kick off October's Wakeup Your Makeup than with a pink party look! Not only is pink makeup feminine and flirty, it also reminds us to Think Pink during October, the national Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Read on for some key tips on pulling off a pink party look (without looking like a ball of cotton candy!)
1. Conceal Redness
When prepping your face for makeup, you want to ensure that you use a good concealer to hide any redness in order to avoid looking extra flushed when wearing pink. We recommend Savoir Faire’s Concealer and Finishing Powder – using your finger or a sponge, dab the concealer over the problem areas followed by a light dusting of the finishing powder on top.
2. Go monochromatic with pink
Wearing pink on your lids, cheeks and lips sounds totally OTT right? Well it doesn't have to be! Try going monochromatic with your pink makeup by selecting a part of your face that you want to focus on, such as your eyes or your lips. Apply the most vibrant and intense pink on your palette to this area, whilst using a lighter shade of pink in other areas. For example, if you want to highlight your lips, apply a hot fuchsia pink lipstick (such as Savoir Faire's Mini Lipstick in 'Showgirl'), while keeping your eyes and cheeks soft with with a light pink. For a soft shimmery cream eyeshadow, try Napoleon Perdis' Creme de la Creme Eyeshadow in 'Quicksilver'. And for fresh pretty cheeks? You can't go past MeMeMe's Cheek and Lip Tint in 'Poppy Tint'.
3. Pair pink with neutrals
If you're not big on too much pink, try combining pink with neutrals to make the colour pop. Whether you choose a vivid pink or a soft pink, use it on only one part of your face and keep everything else neutral with black, grays or nudes. I'm loving the smokey eye and hot pink lips combo that Gwen is rocking here. For ultra bright pink lips, try OCC Lip Tar in 'Pageant', while theMeMeMe Create the Look Pack in 'Smokey Eyes' will make smokey eyes as easy as 1, 2, 3!
WEEK 2: SHIMMERY PARTY LOOK
Continuing with our party looks, this week we're going to look at different ways to achieve a gorgeous shimmery party look - read on!
There's an endless number of different looks you can achieve with shimmer eyeshadow. For a party look, you'd want to use shimmer shades that will really make your eyes stand out, such as in the photo above. When working with shimmer eyeshadow, make sure you apply a good eye primer on your lids in order to bring out the vibrancy and intensity of the shadow.
If you're not accustomed to wearing too much shimmer on your eyes, you can incorporate shimmer into your makeup look in other ways! Powder or liquid illuminisers are the best way to add a touch of shimmer and shine without going OTT. Using a powder illuminiser (such as Inika Mineral Illuminisor) and an all-over face brush, apply the powder to the high points of you face, such as the tops of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose, forehead and chin. Alternatively, try mixing a liquid illuminiser (such as MeMeMe Beat the Blues Illuminiator) with your liquid foundation, tinted moisturiser or BB cream for a pretty, all-over sheen.
WEEK 3 - SEXY & SMOKEY PARTY LOOK
This week's party look is all about getting you sexy on with sultry smokey eyes. Read on for all you need to know about how to pull off this look - without looking like a panda!
Before you get started on the eyeshadow, apply a good eyeshadow primer to your lids to ensure that the eyeshadow shades are intensified and also last for longer. First take a Defining Eye Brushand apply a gold eyeshadow (such as Glamorous Minerals Mineral Eyeshadow in 'Inca Gold') to the inner corners of the eyes as a highlight. Then using a Blending Eye Brush, apply a black eyeshadow (such as B By Bloom Col.lecta Eyeshadow in 'Black Sea') to the top lid and wing it outwards. Then switch to a flat shading brush and apply the black eyeshadow just below the lower waterline. Pssst...a little tip on how to avoid eyeshadow fallout - fold a cotton pad in half and hold it right under your eye when applying eyeshadow (the fallout will land on the cotton pad and not on your face!)
You can use any type of black eyeliner to line your eyes, but the Eye of Horus Smokey Eye Pencilis made for smokey eyes! Line your top lid and your lower waterline, and then use the smudging tip and gently blend out the eyeliner.
Finish off your sultry smokey eyes with some luscious lashes! If you're lucky enough to have naturally long and curly lashes, all you need are some lashings of mascara. We recommendNapoleon Perdis Mesmer-Eyes Mascara for its volume and lengthening properties. Not blessed with great lashes? Look to Eylure Ready to Wear Lashes 140 for instant full and glam lashes!
4. Nude Lips
Smokey eyes is of course, all about the eyes, so you don't want to go too bright on the lips. Nude lippie is always the perfect lip partner for smokey eyes, and here at bb, we love the OCC Lip Tar in 'Interlace'. Not only is the colour super pigmented, it's also 100% vegan and cruelty-free - awesome!
WEEK 4 - KITTY HALLOWEEN PARTY LOOK
Halloween is literally just around the corner, and although we don’t officially celebrate it here in Australia, it’s always fun to get dress up and get involved. If dressing up as a zombie is not your thing, look below for a fun and easy-to-achieve kitty cat makeup look!
This kitty makeup look is a great last minute Halloween idea - all you need to do is grab a pair of cat ears. The best thing about this look is that you don't even need to be super artistic to pull it off. And take away the nose and whiskers, it's also a gorgeous look to wear for a night out!
1. Cat Eyes
Sleek cat eyes, of course, is a must for this look. Take a black liquid eyeliner (such as e.l.f. Essential Liquid Eyeliner) and carefully line your top lid, flicking it outwards to create a wing. Then drag the liquid liner down to the outer half of the lower eyelid. Not too confident with liquid liner? Here's a handy tip - to create the perfect sharp wing, dip a cotton bud into eye makeup remover and use it to swipe away any excess liner. Then take a black pencil liner (such as Eye of Horus Smokey Eye Pencil) and line the lower waterline. Finish off the eyes with lashings of mascara or sexy falsies! We love Eylure's Ready to Wear Lashes 140.
2. Red Lips
Bold red lips will instantly transform you from a cute kitty to a fierce feline. We have two amazing red lip colours that we love here at bb, first is Savoir Faire's creamy lipstick in 'Risque', and the second is the cult OCC Lip Tar in 'NSFW'. If you want your red lippie to last for longer, prime your lips with a tiny bit of foundation before applying the lipcolour. And for perfectly polished lips? Make sure you apply the lipcolour with a fine lip brush.
3. Add nose and whiskers
The last step is adding the cat nose and whiskers! The best product to use for this is a liquid eye pen, such as Eye of Horus Liquid Define Eyeliner. The pen allows better grip and control...it's just like drawing, but on your face! Have fun and be creative with it!
