Packaging: The clear scalp shampoo and conditioner I tried were the sample sizes included in the July box. Containing the perfect amount for around 7-10 washes (depending on the length of your hair) these were the ideal size to tote with me on my trip.
Let me begin by saying; my hair really cannot handle the free samples of hair care found in most hotels. I feel like they have two products and label it differently – the shower gel is jazzed up and given the name ‘shampoo’ and the body lotion is hiding under the guise of ‘conditioner’. Well I’m not buying it. Nor are the tangles in my strands, thank you very much Mr. Hilton! But, I digress… The point is, I find it essential to bring hair care you are used to, or at least similar hair care, on any trips away. No one wants their hair to freak out when they are trying to look exceptionally fresh and gorgeous and all French-Riviera in their instagram snaps. You want to make people jealous! Not draw attention to a dodgy ‘do. Which is why I brought these ones with me. I’ve used them before and know how they react in my strands. Bonus.
Texture/Smell: The Clear Scalp duo smell like your typical hair care. Delicious! I love the scent of hair care in general. It’s a weird beauty tick of mine. The texture is creamy and thick and they both foam nicely in damp strands.
Application/Wear: I don’t know if you’ve head me type this out before. Or read the words that have ensued, BUT it is really important to squeeze all the excess water out of your hair before you apply your shampoo or conditioner. Water is great for the actual cleansing part – I mean, you can’t wash your hair without adding h2O – but too much will dilute the product and mean you won’t get the most out of it.
The shampoo foams up nicely in hair (I like to do two shampoos – which works out well when it comes to restocking my hair care, as I often use a lot more conditioner per dispense than shampoo. Perfect!) and the conditioner is nice and creamy.
Now this bit is important – it’s the part where I tell you why I like this product best. Clear scalp is designed to clear your scalp of any nasties (just like your cleanser is designed to clear your skin of any impurities) which will contribute to better hair growth and health. In other words, it’s a clarifying shampoo. Why is it important to use one of these? Up until embarrassingly recently, I didn’t know this myself. If you use, mouse, hair oils, dry shampoo, hair dust, hairspray of any of the above, you need to wash it out properly and thoroughly. Because just like foundation, illuminator, blush, primer and bronzer, if you don’t cleanse it all off, it’ll hang around and cause blockages. Yep. Those little picky bumps on your head are your scalps equivalent of black and whiteheads. Not so nice. They block the hair ducts in your scalp and impede your hair growth. Not productive to growing healthy flowing locks, right? So even if you don’t use it every wash, try to cleanse with a clarifying shampoo at least once every week. Your head and hair will love you for it.
Verdict: Ever since I saw Miranda promoting Clear Scalp with those lush locks of hers, I wanted in. Apparently I am a marketers dream – or so my boyfriend tells me. Anyway, once I did, I liked it. I certainly don’t have the hair of one of Aus’ hottest models, but I do feel like my scalp is clearer than is was before I knew about clarifying hair care. I'd certianly recommend trying it for yourself, and seeing if your scalp health improves!
