I've had my eye on a gold-tone neck chocker from Maison Martin Margiela for a while now. The reason it's not seated north of my collar bones is because it's a whopping $499.00. Never. Going. To. Happen.
What to do when your taste in fashion leaves you yearning for a treat that your wallet won't cough up for (/can never afford)? Treat yourself with beauty, of course! It's often much cheaper, and certainly acts as instant gratification in the treat department. So, while it's no Margiela for me, I do have a pep in my step thanks to a golden beauty product... literally. Introducing the 24k Active Gold Yulan Oil face Mask from Lonvitalite. Read on for my review...
What is it: Basically, a cloth mask is one of the fastest ways to add serious hydration to your skin - plus a whole lot more. They're cloth sheets drenched with skin soothing, nourishing, and clearing ingredients (to name a few). They are best used right before an event - thanks to their ability to improve skin fast - or before bed, so the ingredients have longer to penetrate the skin uninterrupted post-mask application.
No matter your skin issues, there's a mask to suit your specific concerns, and no exception, Lonvitalite have a broad range of their own. From the C1 mask for controlling pigmentation and discolouration, the C2 and C3 masks for anti-aging and the C4 mask for intense hydration, they have every base covered - they even have eye and hand masks! Pick the one that targets your number one skin issue for the most effictive results. And make no mistake, you should be able to see results right away. That's the beauty of a cloth mask; they're designed to show improvments stat. Just what we like to hear!
I opted for the 24k mask which helps with a host of issues, including offering immediate cooling with it's highly moist hydrating content, also helping to smooth out fine lines and improve an uneven skin tone with its brightening agents. Oh and it's included in this month's bb, so I had to take it for a spin!
Texture/Application: As most of the best skincare requires, this is a treat best served solo. Yes, warning: you will look weird wearing a cloth mask (as evidenced in my stunning snap below), but the results are worth it.
Once you open up your single serve sachet (one mask) you'll feel it's very moist, to the point of being slimey. Pretend you are in Grade 5 again with a Gak obsession and embrace the slime! It's full of ultrafine gold foil, amino and hyaluronic acid. This is the stuff that'll make your skin look and feel younger! Maybe not as young as your Grade 5 skin, but any little bit helps!
Now, be sure to have washed your face pre-mask. Why leave your makeup as a barrier for all that gold? Then, gently lift out the mask and peel open. You'll roughly see a face shape with cut outs for the eyes, nose and mouth. Lift onto your face and gently apply, either starting at the chin and smoothing upwards, or at the forehead and smoothing downwards. If the holes aren't matching up to your main features, simply slip and slide it around a little until they are.
It's at this point I'd advise you find youself a comfy seat to prop yourself on and lean back, to either snooze, or watch a little TV. As the masks as so moist, they might slip off your face if your try to stay vertical. And horiztonal beauty is always best (read: more relaxing).
Now, these babies are super cooling, which is perfect for summer. But if it's winter time, you can make it a comforting experience by slightly warming the mask first before you apply it. Simply slip the mask (inside the packaging, unopened) into some warm (not scalding) water for a few minutes. It'll lightly warm the mask, so it's not as cold to put on your face in minus 10 degrees.
Verdict: I am a big fan of cloth masks, and the Lovitalite 24k Active Gold Yulan Oil Facial Mask is no exception. After roughly 20 minutes (which always turns into around 40minutes for me, thanks to how relaxing these beauty treats are, and my reluctance to get up and wash off) my skin felt smoother but most of all, more hydrated. There was a little excess of the creamy goodness left on my skin, but I just tissued off. I didn't want to wash my face and loose any of the essential ingredients still sinking in.
These masks are a great way to add an instant boost to your skin and would be particularly useful after a long day inside in drying aircon/heating or after a skin-sapping flight. And at $29.00 for a box of 5, it works out to be less than $6 a mask. Now that's good value for gold Mr. Margiela!
