Today I've finally gotten around to reviewing a product I've been using almost daily since it fell into my hot little hands (thanks to bb brand manager Vanessa) - the Pevonia Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser! Designed to remove impurities and dead cells to improve the texture of the skin, here's my verdict...
Packaging: The pevonia botanica gentle exfoliating cleanser comes in a matte white squeeze container with a pale green cap/lid. This is actually an updated version of the pevonia packaging - the newer version is simply a little more streamlined. The full-size contains 150mls of product, which at $67.00 is a more 'luxe' beauty spend. However, you only need a little, so it will last you a while. To dispense, simply unflick the cap and squeeze out. You only need around half the size of a 5c coin, which is plenty to cleanse your entire face!
Texture/Application:pevonia’s Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser contains a Jojoba Beads, Saponaria and Chamomile formula that will 'gently refine and smoothen your skin, giving way for a cleaner and healthier complexion'. Once you squeeze a little out, you can either rub onto your damp face, or apply dry for a more intense exfolaition. I usually apply in the shower, so a little water dilutes the cleanser, making it easy to buff all over the skin. The scent is also lovely - a soothing botanical mix, perfect for early mornings, or calming cleansing before bed.
The very small grains are distributed throughout the creamy cleanser, making this product an interesting combo of a nourishing and an exfoliating cleanser. The creamy base easily blends into skin, whilst the grains remain to be buffed over skin. If, like I was, you aren't a big fan of a grainy cleanser, don't bypass pevonia just yet. It's the perfect cleanser for my t-zone and chin - I simply avoid using it on my cheeks and around my eyes (which don't need the exfoliation).
Even the grains themselves are small enough to be very gentle, so you won't step out of the shower with a red and raw looking complexion. Importantly (I think) I only cleanse with pevonia on the days when I haven't also used another product containing a type of exfoliant, like the Maybelline New York Dream Pure BB Creamor the FAB Facial Radiance Pads. These are chemical exfoliants - which use small amounts of ingredients like Lactic, Glycolic or Salicylic Acid to breakdown impurities in the skin and unblock pores. Sometimes they can trick you into forgetting they are designed to to the same thing as a manual exfoliant (like a grainy scrub) and you can end up over exfoliating your skin if you use both each day. Simply alternate which days you use these products, like I do, if you have pores easily prone to bloackages, or particularly oily skin i.e. scrub one day and use your acidic based product the next day.
However, dry skinned lasses are also prime candidates for pevonia too. Stick with your regular cleanser during the week, but sub in pevonia one or two nights a week to make sure you are helping renew your skin reproduction, and rid your complexion of dead cells.
Verdict: If you've ever feared an exfoliating cleanser, pevonia will make you rethink it. A far cry from the rough and tough $10 exfoliating cleansers you may have used as a teen, pevonia combines the just the right amount of exfoliating beads with the calming and nourishing properties of its creamy base. It's now a staple in my cleansing routine.
