This Sunday is Mother's Day and while many of us will show our mums some love at home with pressies and breaky in bed, thousands of others will be stretching their legs and participating in the Mother's Day Classic all around Australia!
Organised by Women in Super (a national network of women working in the superannuation and finance industries) the event was created, beginning in 1998, as a means to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Inspiration for further funding and awareness grew from the increasing knowledge that breast cancer research has helped to gradually improve the survival rate of the one in nine women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer by the age of 85.
In a community bonding exercise, the run has become something of a tradition for many Australians who gather on the Sunday to participate. The event also brings together women who are living with breast cancer, as well as those who have been affected by, or lost someone to breast cancer.
For those who will be pulling on their running shoes this Sunday (like two of my best friends who are holding a fundraising event this Friday night where a limited edition Mother's Day bellabox will be raffled off!) we suggest a few products to reward yourself with afterwards.
Herban Essentials Towelettes
These towelettes from Herban Essentials are great for refreshment on the go. They come in lemon, orange, lavender, peppermint, ecucalyptus and mixed scents, so there is a scent to suit anyone! Made with the highest quality pure essential oil, these towelettes are naturally antibacterial and antiseptic.
Yes to Carrots Liptint
The Yes to Carrots Lip Tints are great for conditioning lips, especially good if it will be cold and windy in your city or town as running in those conditions can cause a dry and sore pout. 95% Organic, Paraben and Carmine Free, these tints soothe, condition and moisturise lips whilst adding a subtle sheen.
Bloom Hand and Body Wash
Bloom's Hand and Body Wash is the perfect shower essential for a soothing clean. The natural and non-drying formulation leaves skin radiantly clean and soft whilst ylang ylang, lavender and organic essential oils to revive the senses after all that physical exercise!
All proceeds from the Mother's Day Classic are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that promotes and supports research into breast cancer prevention and treatment. Since 1998, the Mother's Day Classic has raised $10.8 million dollars! Last year, the record of $3 million was raised, with 120,000 participants attending at 37 Mother's Day Classic events around the nation. This year, for the 15 year anniversary of the event, that record is hoped to be broken.
Are you participating in the Mother's day Classic this year, or have you ran/jogged/walked in it before? Let us know! - Lauren
