With all the new shows hitting our screens (some amazing - some not so great) it got us thinking - which small screen icons inspire our day to day beauty? Whilst Beckaa is totally not one of them (Sorry Shire fans!) there are plenty of girls (and even guys!) from which to take some super cute beauty cues. Read on for our top TV picks...
Puberty Blues
Probably my new favourite show right now, Puberty Blues is the current remake of the 1981 film, and also based on the 1979 original novel of the same name. Appart from the fact that I feel as though I have a looking glass into my parents' similar Sydney-sider youth's (I don't want to know!) I am loving watching protagonists Sue and Vicky. Beauty inspiration comes in the form of clean, naturally dried hair, with the odd plait thrown in for good measure. Skin is also clean and almost makeup free.
The perfect inspiraiton for the upcoming spring and summer months, this laid back style is easy to achieve. Starting with the 'crowning glory' make sure your strands are in a healthy and clean condition at all times. Try the Aurora Spa Rituals Rose and Otto Nettle Clarifying Shampoo and their Burdock and Rose Revitalising Conditioner. If you try to do the 'no makeup makeup' look, make sure to find a good concealer. This will reduce the need for lots of foundation so you'll only need a translucent powder. Lucky we have these both sorted in an amazing 2-in-1 product - the Savior Faire Concealer and Finishing Powder. Containing two concealer shades and a finishing powder on top, it's perfect for traveling or keeping in your handbag for touch ups on the go.
I Will Survive
The reality style competition to find the next biggest tripple threat to play the lead in the Broadway version of Priscilla, I Will Survive has definitely added a good dose of sparkle to mid-week telly! Whilst we don't advocate painting on drag makeup for everyday in the office (even though it would totally make the workplace more fun!) there are a few tips to take from these stunning ladies who know how to make an impact.
Another small screen fave, Ashlea Madewake, rocking bold lashes and lips
For a glam night out get your mitts on some killer false lashes. Find a natural looking pair and they'll add drama to your look, without being too OTT. We love Eylure's Ready to Wear 140's which are easy to apply and reusable. Another pop of beauty fun that is sure to brighten your day? A hot pink lippie! The bold lip isn't going anywhere, so it's high time your tried it for yourself. Unconvinced? Try Savior Faire's Mini Lipstick in Showgirl for a stunning pink colour and a very well-fitting name to match!
Game of Thrones
This medieval fantasy series may seem a little geeky, but trust us - there is plenty of relationship drama, feuding, and revenge based themes to reel in even the most ardent of anti-fantasy TV watchers. Plus, there are plenty of strong female characters to love (or loathe - Cersei Lannister, anyone?) all with amazing hair and skin - especially considering the show is set in medieval times, long before anti-ageing prods! We love the braids showcased on almost every Lady (as in Lady of the House) as well as their smooth complexions.
To make this look modern, don a few braids in freshly washed hair and keep your base luminious. The MeMeMe Seventh Heaven Face Base rejuvenates, nourishes and hydrates skin, contianing shea butter, vitamin A and beta-carotene. Wear it under makeup for a smooth base or by itself for a radiant glow. Yearning for long locks like Daenerys' or Sansa's? Keep your strands in tip top condition. Try Uspa's Wheatgrass Solar Energy Leave-in Serum which is antioxidant-rich to protect against colour fade and split ends.
True Blood
The show that made vampires actually cool and totally separate from the world of teen-fiction (you know which books and movies I'm talking about!) True Blood is a real fave at bb - and only due in part to the good lookin' leading men. Well, truth be told, a big part is due to them! But we also love the Southern accents, kookie characters and their vampy style. Whether you prefer the undead or the living, there is beauty inspiration to be found from Sookie and Co.
Get the luminious skin of Eric (Afterall, he has a 'killer' complexion for a dude... Geddit?!) with a pearly illuminator. We heart the MeMeMe Beat the Blues Illuminator which blends easily into skin. Mix a little into your liquid foundation for an all over sheen that is more dewy and shiny. Also, why not give your peepers some pop with a smokey shadow that bodes well with the dark AND the light side? Try the Prestige Cosmetics Duo in Zebra, which comes with a dark shade to wear close to the lash line and a shimmering white to accent the brow bone and the inner corners of the eyes.
New Girl
We love Zooey Deschanel's Jess on New Girl and I dare you not to like her too! Just the right amount of wit, quirk and a healthy dose of self-deprecation thrown in too, Jess is the dorky girl who manages to look totally normal but super cute at the same time.
Zooey Deschanel - as herself. Note how much alike Jess she is... freaky
To steal Zooey/Jess' style (Read: That GLORIOUS HAIR!) you are going to need to part ways with your straightener and reach for a rich hair serum instead. Apart from the Uspa offering, we LOVE Royal Moroccan Serum Treatment. It smells divine and includes argan oil for nourishment and moisture. Jess would not be Jess without a little flush of colour on the cheeks too. Try the Bloom Cream Blush Duo for a barely there touch of shimmering rouge.
Keeping Up With the Kardashians
Love 'em or loath 'em (I fall into the former camp - pro Kardashian all the way! What can I say? I love brunettes!) you must admit the sisters rarely step out looking less than glam. Not only did they bring back curves during an era when Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Mischa Barton ruled the Hollywood scene with their frail frames, these gals know how to do bronzer, liner and all around shimmer like no other.
To make 'Kardashian' translate to everyday, try a liquid liner and a great luminious eyeshadow. Just remember to keep your base a little lighter than Kimmy's - especially during the day. We love the Eye or Horus Liquid Define Liner, which comes with a texta tip, making it easier to master the elusive winged eye. Plus it is kind to sensitive peepers. And because Kim nothing if not glamourous, we'd pick the Glamorous Minerals Mineral Shimmer Eye Dust for similar sparkle to hers. Super long lasting, this loose shadow is also paraben-free and hypoallergenic.
