You step out of the car, careful to keep your knees together (no flashing your Britney!). Instantly, terrifying thoughts emerge - are your Spanx showing, or at the very least doing their job? Is there lipstick on your teeth? Was bright yellow the right dress choice? Are those sweat patches forming underneath your arms?
Even if you don't buy into the whole 'Hollywood' thing, you've got to admit, it must be a pretty nerve wracking experience walking the red carpet! Especially when Meryl Streep is mere feet away from you!
Even though celebs often have a bevvy of beauty and fashion talent at their disposal to dress them to the nines, they are only human after all; sometimes they ace it, and sometimes they fail. And that's something we can all relate to when getting ready for a special event! Will my hair look good? Which lipstick should I choose? And... if I'm being honest with my own primping experiences – the inevitable, ‘Does my bum look big in this?’ question, often aimed at the bf - forced to walk on verrrrry thin ice!
So, while we here at bb aren't really cut out for life in front of the paps, we can appreciate the efforts these ladies go to in the beauty stakes when the eyes of the world are upon them! In honor of this effort and the inspiration they and their stylists give us, here are our favourite red carpet looks and products that inspired the February bellabox! Enjoy!
Classic red carpet beauty looks
For the love of lashes, a well plumped fan haloing the eye thanks to falsies has been where it's at since Marilyn's day! A red carpet essential, and best of all, they don't cost a bomb and are often reusable, a la the Manicare Glam Kelly Lashes.
Next up - the perfect manicure. Two of the most popular choices are a classic nude for subtlety, or a dazzling red to match the carpet. Try this classic Pret-A-Polish Luxury Lacquer shade, below. And don't forget the cuticle care either to deter any dryness. I love the Nutri-Syngery NS-5 Cuticle & Nail Complex which not only works, but is a mega-steal.
Then, there's the perfect lips. It's not just about choosing the exact, right colour though. For RC ready lips, the lip liner is just as important. For a neutral to go with any nude lippy, look to the Scandal Cosmetics Auto Lip Liner. Carefully line the entire lip, then fill in. Apply lipstick on top, for a precise and long-lasting look.
Of course, bronzed skin has been trending for a while. That's not to say pale beauties are out of the RC running (see below) but tanned pins are everywhere at the major awards. Just look to any dress with a side split to see the evidence peaking through. Faux is the way to go, so look to an easy spray applicator, like the Reef Beach Glow Instant Tan Spray Bronzer to emulate for your next event. And for bronzer on the cheeks? Apply with a qood quality brush, like the Ebony C Kabuki Powder Brush.
Blonde hair. For better (for blondes) or worse (for resentful brunettes - ie. me!) blondes have often monopolised the 'Golden Hollywood' ideal. Again, think Marilyn, or Grace Kelly, or todays equivalent - Cate Blanchett. While the tides are turning, and dark haired, to red haired lasses are having their moment in the spotlight, blondes are still big news, hence the necessity of blonde colour correcting products in stylist's beauty bags. The John Frieda Sheer Blonde range is a top choice for celebs and, well... us, alike!
Unexpected red carpet beauty looks
As mentioned above, pale skin is coming back into fashion. Not that it shouldn't, or doesn't look FAB, but it's a little unexpected after years of tanorexics on the RC. If you're planning on keep your skin as creamy and clear as pale beauty Rooney Mara, you need to invest in creams with an SPF. Try the affordable Boots Laboratories Serum7 Protecting Day Creamwhich will keep skin protected and nourished.
And on a similar and unexpected RC route, the no makeup look has been seen on some very famous faces. We're looking at you Tilda Swinton! While it may not be for everyone, it's certainly refreshing. And that's exactly what you need to keep in mind should you want to wear this 'look' yourself. Keep your complexion clear and fresh with a kind-to-skin cleanser, like the GAIA Skin Naturals Pink Grapefruit and Jasminevariety.
Another unexpected trend over the past year at awards shows have been the slicked back locks on celebs - from long to short 'dos. A little edgy and a lot flattering when paired with a bold lip or heavy eye, you'll need to use a smoothing product like the Aveda light elements smoothing fluid, before styling. Curly haired lasses will also need to reach for a straightening iron and a protectant, like the Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener.
Crazy colour is also another unexpected addition to beauty looks on the RC. From wild nail art - try the Elegant Touch Envy Wraps like mega-fan Katy Perry - to colourful locks - hey there Miss. Kelly O! colour is coming back in, in a big way! And personally, we love the quirky change!
The RC preppers
Not to be forgotten, the red carpet prepping products also go a long way to getting our fav celebs looking glam! From skin soothers, like the Avene Soothing Moisture Mask, to skin purifyers, like the Montagne Jeusnesse Blemish Mud Mask these skincare prepping products are to celeb complexions what in-n-out burger and chocolate cake are to Emma Roberts and Sofia Vergara - sustenance pre-RC!
And there you have it! A veritable mood-board of beauty inspiration from the RC. Which celeb do you think rocks the crimson carpet the best? Which beauty look or trend are you glad to see still in fashion? Or perhaps you are a fan of the more unexpected looks? Let us know!
We hope you've found a few products you love from your February Red Carpet Ready boxes, and discovered something you might not have thought to try for yourself! Time to roll the credits and I'll see you, same article, same place, next month! - Lauren
