Sam brings you the latest and greatest from this week at bbHQ!
Earlier in the week, Lauren and I went to the Aurora Spa Retreat in St Kilda. I have given many vouchers to friends for the Retreat, but had never been myself. When I started to chat to them about sampling their beautiful products, Nicky, the head of marketing, booked me in for one of their signature treatments so I could experience it for myself. Lucky Lauren got to come with me, and we had the pleasure of meeting Lyndall Mitchell, the Founding Director. Lyndall is extremely passionate about her work, and it shows when you talk to her. She explained her theory of Rituals of Self Care, where you take a few minutes each day to concentrate on yourself. She described a customer who introduced her to the concept of a 3 Second Holiday, where you inhale the scent of your shower gel before you use it. Scents are an important part of Aurora Spa Rituals products, when you are having a treatment, your therapist will encourage you to inhale deeply. Being an aromaholic, this appeals to me and I love the fragrances in their products so it’s a lovely way to really experience them.
Lauren and I had the Kitya Karnu Signature Treatment in a purpose built steam room. After relaxing, drinking herbal tea in a gorgeous room overlooking the deck, we headed into the steam room. Our therapists greeted us wearing what looked suspiciously like swimwear. We looked nervously at one another, both having said that we didn’t want to get our hair wet, as we had washed and blow dried that morning in preparation for a night out after work. We were oiled, massaged, scrubbed and then rinsed, followed by a face and hair mask. By that stage, neither of us cared about our hair, as the treatment was so divine. We emerged gleaming, hair a mess, but feeling sensational and incredibly relaxed. We sat and mused how lovely it would be if we could drift downstairs, have a spot of lunch at Circa, a glass of something bubbly, and then head back up for more treatments, first stop the pedicure room, where you fully recline with an ipod loaded with relaxing music. Sadly, we had work to do, and we felt a little guilty about having such a blissful morning while our colleagues were slaving away back at bbHQ. If you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting Aurora Spa Retreat, nor tried their products, watch this space….
If you haven’t checked out our online store, go on over and have a little look. We have a curated range of some of the coolest, cult brands from around the world, a well as old favourites, big brands, small brands, splurge items or some products you only need small change for. As always for us, it’s about the product inside the packaging that counts, not necessarily the name or the price on the product.
Ladies, if you have not seen this movie, grab your BFF or your GBF (gay best friend) and get thee to the nearest movie theatre poste haste!
I went with a friend, we had planned to go gold glass so we could have a little drinky and a drool while watching the movie, but alas neither of us read their website correctly so we couldn’t watch in luxury. Actually it didn’t matter in the end because it was so hilarious, we were in stiches half the time and the other half was spent trying to decide which six pack to look at. Seriously, you could grate cheese on their abs. Being a True Blood fan, Joe Manganiello was my first pick, and having always been partial to Matthew McConaughey, he was my second so I divided my time equally between the two of them. I wouldn’t want to show any favouritism.
It’s completely cheesy and some of the scenes are cringe-worthy, but the boys really throw themselves into their roles and embrace their inner stripper. Channing Tatum throws out some impressive dance moves, which makes one wonder if he will play Tony in a remake of Saturday Night Fever in the near future. Having sat through awful movies on women strippers, (Showgirls or Striptease anyone?), it’s about time Hollywood gave us girls something to look at. Perhaps you should take your man, ladies, he might learn something!
