Makeup at the gym. It’s a controversial topic. Should you do it?
I often go to the gym straight after work, and as you may have guessed by my job title (Beauty Editor), I wear makeup to work. And due to laziness, this means sometimes I wear makeup to the gym. Yep. It happens. No shame.
Heavy foundation or winged eyeliner and sweat don’t mix, and if you’re heading for a serious workout you might find that everything slips out of place. Remember, no one is judging you at the gym. Everyone at the gym is used to seeing makeup free faces, and most people are so focused on their own workout that they have no idea what anyone else looks like! In fact if you're wearing incredibly heavy makeup you're more likely to stand out.
But what about if you really do want to look a little neater at the gym? What makeup could you get away with? Everyone’s got their reasons for wearing it, and I’m here to help!
I would really advise skipping foundation and BB Cream. Perhaps dab on a little concealer in areas that might be worrying you. You don't want to see makeup stains on your towel when you wipe your sweaty face.
Waterproof Mascara
We’re going to skip the heavy eye makeup and just go for a few coats of mascara. This will give you a natural but pulled together look. You absolutely must choose a waterproof formula to make sure you avoid panda eyes. These days every brand makes waterproof mascara. Try Maybelline’s Volum Express The Colossal Waterproof mascara or CoverGirl Lashblast Fusion Water Resistant Mascara. You can also use a waterproof top coat, like the Anastasia Lash Genius. This amazing clear mascara is applied on top of your existing mascara to set it in place and make it waterproof!
Lips and Cheeks
Lipstick or gloss is not going to last through a workout. If you would like some colour on your lips, a tint is best. theBalm’s Stainiac Beauty Queen gives a light pink tint to your lips that won’t budge. You might end up a little red and puffed from exercising, so perhaps blush isn’t quite what you’re after at the gym. However, the Stainiac also doubles as a cheek tint so if you’re looking for a rosy glow it’s the perfect choice!
Nail Polish
Colourful nails will help you look more groomed at the gym. I think we all know that long nails are probably going to get in the way if you’re doing weights or anything that uses your hands. I would recommend keeping your nails short, and painting them with cute colours instead of going for fake nails. We love the Kester Black Nail Polishes – it’s so bright and colourful!
