We have lots to be proud of here in the land of Oz. Vegemite aside, Australians are lucky enough to have access to some of the best beauty products and brands around, as well as a host of Aussie beauties to give us daily inspiration...
Well, there is a reason foreigners think Aussie lasses are some of the most naturally beautiful, stylish yet laid back ladies in the world! Here are four of our favourites and some of their signature beauty looks we like to steal for ourselves, plus the products to match.
No list of Aussie beauties would be complete without Ms. Kerr, Australian model extraordinaire! A natural beauty no doubt, Miranda does like to play up her stunning features with fresh makeup - the perfect mix of 'done' and au natural! To ace a similar look, reach for a rosey pink lip product AND blush. When used together, the results scream 'picture of health' for the wearer as Miranda so wonderfully demonstrates. Here's how...
First, pick the right rosey red for your lips - the bolder the lip, the more subtle the cheeks should be. For a similar shade to Miranda's above, try the MeMeMe Pussycat Cheek & Lip Tint, and dab a little on with your finger tips. It may look dark in the bottle, but a little goes a long way and will create a lovely, soft touch of colour on your pout. Once you've achieved your desired shade on your lips, start on your cheeks. Keep the colour to the upper half of the apples - too low and you'll veer into clown territory! You can stick to the MeMeMe tint for your cheeks too, or else reach for the lovely, dusky rose petal pink of the B by Bloom Col.lecta Colour Cheek Tint in Tuscany if you've kept your lips on the lighter side. Used sparingly, to accentuate your natural beauty, reds and pinks can work in harmony! Just make sure to conceal any red blemishes to keep the focus on the rosey tones on your dial that you actually want to show off (no pimples, that doesn't include you)!
Say what you will about this blonde beauty, but of late, Lara always looks immaculate when it comes to the beauty game, in my opinion. Her makeup artist bff - Max May - knows that the key to showcasing Lara's lovely looks are to keep her base dewy and natural whilst playing up one feature - often her awesome lips! Whilst Lara used to favour a nude lip, these days she's more about a pop colour - a great choice for summer! Instead of a smokey eye (which can create fallout and look messy during the warmer summer days and nights) a bold lip is easy to apply (and reapply) and means you can stick to simple yet stunning skin and a slick of black masacara. Too easy!
To create a dewy base of your own, start by hydrating your skin pre-makeup. A good quality rosehip oil, like Rose-Hip Vital, is just the ticket. Apply before bed for soft and supple skin come morning. Mixing a little primer or moisturiser into your foundation will also help to achieve a dewy finish. Try the MeMeMe Seventh Heaven Face Base. If you are worried your base is too 'oily' or moist, a small dusting of illuminating powder on top will help to keep it in place. Try the Inika Mineral Illuminisor. Finally finish with a slick of the boldest lippy your game for. Our pick? Savoire Faire's Risque.
After spying on this local beauty in Bali recently - we stayed in the same hotel - I can confirm that she is just as stunning in person as in your copy of Vogue, even sans makeup. Some girls have all the luck! If you are a fan of the 'no makeup, makeup' look, like Samantha advocates so brilliantly, you'll need to ace your base. A great concealer, a lightweight foundation and a creamy illuminator will be your wonder trio.
Start by buffing in a mineral foundation. When you build it up, bit by bit, you can make it look almost undetectable. Plus, being mineral, it will let your skin 'breathe' whilst covering imperfections. Winner! Try Inika's Mineral Foundation, which also contains an SPF 15 - perfect for the Aussie (or Balinese!) climate. Then conceal, conceal, conceal! Any little spots can be tackled with a longwearing concealer, like Savoir Faire's Concealer duo, which also comes with a finishing powder for extra endurance. A dash of creamy illuminator, swiped onto the tops of cheeks, down the bridge of your nose, cupids bow and above and below your brow bone will complete the casual yet classic look. Simple!
One of the best (again, in my opinon!) Aussie actresses in her league, Toni Collette is looking AMAZING of late. Her punchy pink pout at this week's G'Day USA Gala is proof! Yet subtly bronzed peepers and natural lips is my favourite look on Toni, like above. Not only does it just make her blue eyes pop, but it's also a lovely day-time look for summer, which we should all copy at least once before March rolls around!
After applying your base, reach for a bronze toned shadow, which happens to flatter every eye colour under the sun. Try the Glamourflage Gypsy Jo Eyeshadow in Midas Touch and lightly wash over the entire lid. Then, build up the colour on a fine tipped shadow brush (like this one from e.l.f) and dab into a little water to make the bronze shadow extra pigmented, before swiping on as close to the lash line as possible. Then, do the same on the lower outer third of your eye (underneath your bottom lashes) before finishing with lots of black mascara. On the lips, try a subtle tint in a similar shade as your natural lip colour, for the most flattering finish. I like the Yes to Carrots Lip Tint in Sunset Pink. A generous sweeping of bronzer on the cheeks completes the look.
Who is your Aussie beauty icon? Which look or lady do you love the best? I'm tied between Lara and Toni - both looks i'll be stealing for myself very soon! - Lauren
