Today marks the end of the Melbourne Cup Carnival and I plan to wave it off with a beauty bang at Emirates Stakes Day!
Being Stakes Day, I knew I could plan my outfit around a more casual theme - this is the most relaxed day of the carnival. Typically known as 'family day', Stakes Day (in my eyes) calls for less formal dresses and less structured head pieces - well that's what I'm going for, so I'll stick to it! Plus, my sister is making her first outing to the races this year and I leant her the headpiece I was planning on wearing, hence the purple floral arrangement I will don instead (see below) On the plus side, it only cost me $6.00 - and I've done my good family-day deed for the week too!
So how did it only cost me $6.00, I hear you ask? I got crafty y'all! One fake floral frond and some florists wire plus a few bobby pins is all I needed. As for how it will wear throughout the entire day - I'll just have to wait and see! But I have high hopes.
The outfit. Orange shoes from Ralph Lauren Collection, floral print dress,home-made headpiece du jour, vintage straw and leather bag (a birthday present from my best pal) which looks a lot like the one Lucy toted to Derby Day
I plan on pinning it into a big and messy top knot. I know, I know. You are probably sick to death of me and my top knots by now, but I can't help it; I do love them so!
This is my inspiration...
This lovely looking lass is also wearing that bright lip exceptionally well, which I hope to do too. I'm banking on a tangerine coral, like this one...
On my nails? Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure in Bittersweet to match my dress. Read more about it over here.
And there you have it! on top of a sheer base and not a lot of eye makeup (I will be wearing my oversized sunnies after all) that pretty much sums up my beauty look for the day. I told you I was keeping it fairly casual! If you are travelling to the races this weekend or just want to win some amazing prizes, don't forget to enter our Metro and bellabox Travel in Style competition too! It closes at midnight on the 12th of November!
Do you prefer a more casual approach to dressy day events or do you go all out like it's a night event anyway? I hope you like my look! Let me know! - Lauren
