Today, I am making my way to the Flemington race course to partake in a little punting, champagne and socialising. Yes, it's Super Saturday! A lesser known race day for many who only think of the races in terms of the Spring Racing Carnival - or should I say, spring racing fashions! - but none the less, a super fun day and usually, a great chance to dip your feet into the Aw13 trends of the season!
However, as many of you will know, it's not feeling too Autumn-y here in Melbourne at the moment! 9 days over 30 degrees has got us sweating it out! So rather than debuting a crisp-weather look, I'll have to resort to pulling out all the beauty tricks I learnt this summer to stay looking polished and put together long after I've hit the track. Here are just a few I have up my sleeve, as well at fellow bb HQer Emily, who is coming along with me.
My beauty picks and tips...
I'm opting for my usual favourite bold lip over a statement eye. I can just never seem to maintain a heavy eye in the heat! No matter which shadow I use, it loves to wind up creased into the fine lines around my eyes. No fun! So, bold lip it is. As I'm planning on wearing a pink and black ensemble perhaps with a bit of silver thrown in (see my Sportsgirl headband below) or a black headpiece, a matchy-matchy pink lip is my top pick.
Right now I am all about getting the most out of my lipstick, espcially on event days where there's too much fun to be had to jet off to the loos to reapply every hour. So I am trying something a little different this weekend. I'm going to trial using my lipliner as a lipstick! A few amazing liners have hit bb lately and they are all priced at under $5.00! Can you believe it? I'm referring to the Designer Brands Lip Liner, which are all super saturated for high impact, plus are creamy and smooth and last for aaaaaages - amazing quality for such a steal! I'm going to lightly pencil in my whole lip and blend the colour with my finger tip, then add a little glossy balm over the top to keep my lips hydrated. If you want to try too, reach for a the Natralus Natural Paw Paw Ointment.
Em's beauty picks and tips...
While I'm going for a bold lip, Em is more of an eye girl. No fan of having to reapply, she prefers to highlight her peepers. However, as mentioned, going for a big, bold eye on a 30+ degree can be a bit of a beauty disaster! So instead of reaching for shadows to amp up your eyes, go for a subtle liquid line instead. Perhaps your are a seasoned liner pro, or perhaps you are new to the liner game? Either way, novices and pro's alike will love the Eye of Horus Liquid Define Eyeliner. The easy to use felt applicator means your handiwork won't take you as long to master and shouldn't fade pre-4pm in the sun. Win!
Em's other beauty pick? The Batiste Dry Shampoo. This awesome hair saver is not only ace for making oily locks appear refreshed, it's also tops for adding a touch of volume to your roots. Em's decided to backcomb her hair at the crown, so it stands up a little behind her pretty Topshop headband, below. To get a little oomph, simply separate your hair (Em will do the section of hair right behind where the jewels of the headband will sit) holding it vertically straight up. Then, spray your dry shampoo behind this row of hair, close to the scalp. Then lower the section of hair you're holding and rub your fingertips against your scalp to blend in the dry shampoo. This will help to create a litle friction and add extra body to this section of hair. You can then also grab a comb and tease your hair right up at the roots to make it even 'bigger'. A misting of hairspray will also help it to hold!
