Weekend Wonders: Daytime Celebrations

We’ve all got a signature look that we love to rock when having a night out, a schtick that plays up our best feature/s – whether it be smokey eyes, a bold pout or voluminous locks… But what do you do when you’re heading to a daytime event and need to tone down your usual ‘celebratory’ look?

This weekend I’m heading home to my family, to celebrate the christening of my adorable niece Millie. After the church service there’s a lunch for 50 people at my parents’ house, which (along with lots of nice food and drink!) means I’ll be catching up with old family friends and meeting a lot of new people! I don’t want to go overboard with my makeup but I do want to look special for this exciting occasion which is why I’ll be using the following products for a gold star appearance!

1. Subtle shine on lids

Ok,  so even though it’s a daytime occasion, that doesn’t mean you have to be boring – I’m still going to play up my favourite feature, my blue eyes, but it’s going to be more subtle than my night time look. I’ve professed my longterm love affair with Prestige‘s ‘Waterproof Automatic Eyeliner’ in Espresso over here and I’ll be using it to line my upper lashes. I’ll then smudge the perfect shimmery golden bronze of Adorn’s Mineral Cosmetics Eye Create Intensive Eyeshadow up to my crease and blend well. Top this all off with Almay’s Get Up and Grow Mascara then a quick definition of my brows with a brow pencil and my eyes are done!

2. Sheer coverage on skin

After applying a light moisturiser to ensure extra smooth application, my next step will be applying my fave product ever, discovered last year through bellabox – my Erborian BB Crème. I wear this every day in place of a heavy foundation and it really does do everything it says on the box – it combines moisturiser, sun protection and foundation
to give skin a soft, flawless, make-up free look that lasts throughout the day
. My first tube (which lasted for about 6 months, even with every day use!) was the regular formulation in Light and for my second tube, I purchased the Hypoallergenic Light variety. I find them to be pretty similar but the hypoallergenic one to be slightly darker, which is good during the warmer weather when my pale skin turns very slightly tanned!

3. A pop of pink

The perfect finishing touch to this fresh yet elegant celebratory look is a hint of pink – it is spring and the lunch is being held in a garden, after all! On top of my BB Crème, to the fleshy apples of my cheeks, I’m going to apply a light dusting of MeMeMe Blush Me! Blush Box in pink. This lightens up the look and brightens the face with a sweet glow. Then all I need is a slick of Carmex’s sheer pink tinted Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm and I’m all set to celebrate my niece’s christening!

This is the daytime look I’ll be rocking come Sunday lunch time – it’s fresh, clean, simple and still highlights one of my favourite features – my eyes – without looking like I’ve forgotten to wash off Saturday night’s makeup!
